Truth-finding commission focused on Epstein's activities in New Mexico set to ramp up quickly

SANTA FE — A legislative truth-finding commission tasked with digging into Jeffrey Epstein's past ties to New Mexico will begin holding meetings this week, after winning approval Monday in the state House.

The chamber voted 62-0 to approve creation of the four-member commission, which features two Democrats and two Republicans.

Rep. Andrea Romero, D-Santa Fe, the lead sponsor of the measure creating the commission, House Resolution 1, said the panel would hold its first meeting Tuesday. She was one of the four House members appointed to the commission by House Speaker Javier Martínez, D-Albuquerque, after the proposal won approval.

The other members of the investigatory subcommittee are Reps. Marianna Anaya, D-Albuquerque, Andrea Reeb, R-Clovis, and Bill Hall, R-Aztec. Reeb is a former prosecutor, while Hall is a retired FBI agent.

The commission will not have the ability to directly launch criminal investigations, but will be able to subpoena witnesses to testify and coordinate with law enforcement agencies. Information gathered will be posted publicly, Romero added, and a report will be presented by the end of this year.

"We will look at the gaps in the law and enforcement that allowed these crimes to take place and fix it," she said.

The idea of a temporary fact-finding commission was first floated last summer, with Romero likening it to the U.S. House committee formed to investigate the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

The idea has picked up steam amid ongoing intrigue over the allegations of sexual abuse of underage girls at Zorro Ranch in Santa Fe County.

Epstein purchased the Zorro Ranch from the family of former Gov. Bruce King in 1993. The property is located near Stanley on more than 7,500 acres of land and featured a 33,339-square-foot mansion, pool, hot tub and other structures.

There are lots of leftists in New Mexico. What else do you need to know about why Epstein was there?

Epstein truth-finding commission plans to start issuing subpoenas to ‘persons of interest’

SANTA FE — A newly formed legislative subcommittee tasked with investigating the full extent of what took place at Jeffrey Epstein’s former ranch in New Mexico has already identified possible subpoena targets, the panel’s chairwoman said Tuesday.

The four-member subcommittee, which has been referred to as a truth-finding commission, held its first meeting just a day after a proposal creating it won decisive approval in the state House.

Rep. Andrea Romero, D-Santa Fe, the subcommittee’s chairwoman, said the panel will move quickly to use its authority to compel witness testimony. It also plans to set up a website and a phone line for tips to be submitted about activities that took place at Zorro Ranch, located south of Santa Fe.

“The committee will begin issuing subpoenas to these persons of interest without delay,” Romero said during Tuesday’s hearing.

But she later declined to identify who those individuals might be, saying the committee did not want to “compromise any leads” that it might have.

Earlier Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Melanie Stansbury, D-N.M., said multiple prominent New Mexicans are named in unredacted Epstein investigation files.

But the congresswoman said it would be inappropriate to share the names of anyone who has not been fully investigated.

I'll be posting a story on prominent NM Dems who flew on Epstein's plane shortly.

Grandstanding, I suspect. I hope I am wrong but doubt it.

From the posted story:

Former Gov. Bill Richardson, in particular, faced questions about his relationship with Epstein before Richardson's death in 2023.

A spokesperson for Richardson said in 2019 the former two-term governor, congressman, diplomat and Cabinet official in the Clinton administration had only visited Epstein's ranch once, in 2012. But files released this year by the U.S. Department of Justice appear to contradict that claim. Specifically, the files indicate Richardson arranged to meet with Epstein numerous times both before and after Epstein's 2008 conviction in Florida on sex charges.

I’ll bet that former Bill Clinton/Lewinsky fixer, and later Governor of New Mexico Bill Richardson was involved with Epstein. Good thing he’s dead.

Monica Lewinsky got rich after Clinton.

Did Epstein help with that? A very good line of inquiry.

ML went silent on X since Jan. 25.

Richardson has been named in very old files—he was neck deep in Epstein world.

Some folks here still claim everything Epstein is a nothingburger.

A lot of bad stuff went down in that New Mexico estate.

Stay tuned...

and later Governor of New Mexico Bill Richardson was involved with Epstein.

Just like Clinton, Richardson liked to be up close and personal with the young women he met. There are many reported instances of him with "hands on" women in a manner considered inappropriate, including by the Democratic lieutenant governor in 2007:

Richardson Defense Raises Questions

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson’s 2008 presidential campaign has been burdened by unusually public discussion about his behavior with women.

The lieutenant governor of New Mexico, Diane Denish was quoted in the Albuquerque Journal saying she avoids standing or sitting near Richardson because of his physical manner, which she said was not improper but was “annoying.” The governor, she said, “pinches my neck. He touches my hip, my thigh, sort of the side of my leg.”

On repeated occasions, Richardson has been pressed by reporters or Democratic activists on whether his personal conduct can withstand public scrutiny.

"Stay tuned..."

Thanks, will do. I'm sure RATS will run with the claim that Richardson is no longer alive and can't defend himself.

RATS will likely try to counter any claims about Richardson with the excuse that he’s dead and can’t defend himself against allegations. I remember when he pissed off the Clintons by withdrawing his public endorsement of Hillary for President, and endorsing Obama.
