For the first time in three decades, ESPN will no longer have the rights to Sunday Night Baseball this season. That's right.
No more Jon Miller and Joe Morgan! Well, to be fair, they've been gone for a decade now, but still, you get the point. It was a staple in households across America for 30 years. It's now gone forever.
Last year, NBC acquired the rights to SNB in a landmark deal that will shake up how – and where – we watch Major League Baseball this season.
Good luck trying to figure that out, by the way. Regular season games will be spread out just about everywhere throughout the season. ESPN will still air some mid-week games. FOX, of course, has plenty. NBC and Peacock are now a major player. TBS has Tuesday games. Apple still has Friday night games. Netflix even has Opening Night!
Get all that? Like I said, goooooooood luck!
Anyway, the big move here will be Sunday Night Baseball moving from ESPN to NBC this spring and summer. That's one part of the equation. The other part? What ESPN will replace it with.
It seems we finally have that answer:
That's right. Sunday Night Baseball is OUT, and "Women's Sports Sundays" are IN. Thoughts? First impressions?

The whole point of this is to eventually run boys' sports off your local community.
ESPN has decided NCAA baseball isn't worth it Sundays.
Ugh. Joe Morgan. Unlistenable. Speaks, speaks, speaks, and then you realize, as the next pitch is about to be thrown, that he’s said exactly nothing.
His voice is strong and has a nice tone, but man-o-man—where’s the beef, Joe?

One thing for sure, it will be spread out over a dozen streaming services that cost from $5.99 - $20.99 each so that they can afford to pay players 50 million a year.
ESPN - ABC - CBS - NBC - MSLSD - ETC have all been dead to us for many, many moons.
My wife and I walk to local parks to watch Little League baseball, soccer.
If I do need some professional sports, I dial up videos of Jerry Rice and Dick Butkus.
Bring back the 1980’s NBC Baseball music.
If they allow transwomen, it might be watchable.
I still miss Saturday morning’s syndicated “This Week In Baseball” show.
My thought is that whether it's ESPN or NBC you know it's leftist politics and thus unwatchable. As far as woman's sports, they are simply as a whole unpopular. People can enjoy female skaters for a couple of nights every 4 years, or on occasion a major woman's tennis match, but other than that it's not entertaining.
You left out beach volleyball!
The whole point of $100 a month services is to take television to elites. Many teams are going to local broadcast stations for their local broadcasts.
The Yankees bought their own network, The YES network.
The regional sports network model is fading and more teams are going to local syndication. Local syndication will mean more access and that means more revenue eventually with people buying tickets and making appearances.
what's up with that? We've been watching college softball and women's tennis.

I guess those WNBA ratings didn’t sink in at the Mouse.
Well, we’ve come a long way from the old days. I remember the NBC game of the week on Saturdays, with Curt Gowdy and Pee Wee Reese. And then after Sandy Koufax retired, he joined those two for the game of the week.
And then Jim Simpson and Tony Kubek broadcast the backup game of the week, which was shown nationally in case the game of the week was rained out; then they had another game to show.
The only women’s sports I watch is lacrosse and that’s only because my daughter played it and I grew to like the game. She also played soccer, but I just can’t get into women’s soccer. Don’t really care for men’s soccer either.
I’ve heard some teams are facing financial problems. We never see financial statements from teams so who knows.
But I’m sure paying some players in the tens of millions of dollars every single year, has got hurt the bottom line of those teams. They can only raise ticket prices so much. They can only extract so much money out of broadcasting rights.
I know some of some people who are big baseball fans, but they have not gotten into all this streaming., and paying for different services just to watch the games. They just catch the highlights on youtube.

I have to believe they are losing viewers, just the hard core old timers now and the betters.
