WOW 🚨 California is tracking down former residents and making sure they actually left to try and collect taxes
California is demanding full details on their move down to the vehicle used and moving invoices
“How you know the state of California is hurting. This is the letter they just sent me — Please provide a brief narrative of events and circumstances surrounding you becoming a non-resident of California with your response. Provide the specific move out dates as it was not reported.
7 years ago, California 540 non-resident return for each shipment of households, personal vehicle, Etc. Items from California to Texas during the period. They want to know how we got everything from California to Texas. They want to see complete moving invoices. Any proof that we have of when we left and why we left.
Because they want to tax me. Good luck”

Yes I had filed state tax returns in both states during the year of the moves. So perhaps that is official reporting to appropriate authorities.
I moved to Nevada 2 years ago....now moved on to Utah as they have excellent medical care in the Oncology department.
Commies gonna be commies.
ABSOLUTELY NOT
It’s not like I’d ever return to California, once I’ve left it.
I’m declaring this comment the winner!
NY has long done similar stuff to residents moving down to FL, requiring all sorts of evidence that they weren’t NY residents and they weren’t in NY making any money.
Yes. Otherwise the Gavin Newsom secret police will find you and your answer to “Your papers, please” had better be the one they want to hear.
Hmmm ... Seems like I had to report my new residence in the new State to the Motor Vehicles bureaucracy and the Elections bureacracy ...
Have you ever heard of the State of California sending refund checks for the unused portion of Vehicle License fees to people who left the State while they still had time left? Yeh, me neither.

Do Re Mi
by Woody Guthrie
Oh, if you ain’t got the do re mi, folks,
you ain’t got the do re mi,
Why, you better go back to beautiful Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Georgia, Tennessee.
California is a garden of Eden,
a paradise to live in or see.
But believe it or not,
you won’t find it so hot
If you ain’t got the do re mi.
Maybe Texas and Florida can provide new residents with emancipation certificates!
“Do you have to report to a state that you are leaving it?”
If they tax you you have to file a NR return.

Yes.
This nation cannot exist half grifting, lying, woke Dem Socialist TDS scumbags and half free.
—Abraham Lincoln. (paraphrased a little)
School kid in high school: Who is that Abraham Lincoln guy?
Fellow student: Somebody who invented the penny and must have been a builder because he built the Lincoln Tunnel.
A few years back the Franchise Tax Board tried to tax the pensions of Californian retirees who had moved out of state. The Tax Board’s logic was the pensions were earned in California and thus were subject to California tax. SCOTUS slapped them down.

Next Newsome will build a wall to keep people in.
When I lived in California they had set up tax offices in Nevada and probably Texas and Florida...for one obvious reason. Then they started going after pensions, often many years after the person retired. When I heard about that, I packed my bags that night (figuratively) and moved to Texas (no income tax).
For anyone living in California (and to a lesser extent, other blue states) who wants to leave, my recommendation is to (if possible, of course) hire on to a big company and ideally have them move you, but more realistically, just getting an out of state job that can clearly back you up is best...and forget about moving out of the country and then claiming Texas, you’ll lose.
It would be nice if they would track down whether or not our congresscritters actually live in Commiefornia.
Rush avoided NYC even for banquets, meetings etc. to avoid getting audited and potentially taxed for the privilege of doing business in their state.
