Hollywood icon Robert Duvall has died at the age of 95.
He was best known for playing Tom Hagen opposite Al Pacino and Marlon Brando in The Godfather.
The actor's wife, Luciana, announced the news Monday on Facebook, writing, 'Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort.'
She added ... 'To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything. His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court. For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented.
'In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all. Thank you for the years of support you showed Bob and for giving us this time and privacy to celebrate the memories he leaves behind.'
he San Diego native worked as an actor for seven decades.
Duvall began his career on TV with minor roles in the 1960s on The Defenders, Playhouse 90 and Armstrong Circle Theatre.
He made his feature film acting debut portraying Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962).
Other early roles include Captain Newman, M.D. (1963), Bullitt (1968), True Grit (1969), M*A*S*H (1970), THX 1138 (1971), Joe Kidd (1972), and Tomorrow (1972).

See post number 24.
Open Range is a very good old west movie. The characters all wore what seems to me, realistic clothing instead of Hollywood-dandy cowboy gear. Costner and Benning also quite good.
The climax shootout scene is really captivating the first couple times I watched the movie. All in all, Open Range is one of my top movies.
Lions is one of the GREAT movies.
You’re flying with Bull Meechum and that is the eye of the storm..

His role as Augustus “Gus” McCrae in the acclaimed “Lonesome Dove” was my favorite performance of Robert Duval. RIP.
Yes. That will help remove stereotypes and get the correct understanding of Christianity.
He totally killed every cowboy role. He may have been the best screen cowboy of all time.
Duvall’s political views were variously described as libertarian or conservative.
He was personally invited to Republican President George W. Bush’s inauguration in 2001. In September 2007, he announced his support for Rudy Giuliani’s campaign in the 2008 Republican Party presidential primaries.
Duvall also worked the floor at the GOP’s 2008 national convention.
I agree Lonesome Dove was a great series. Whoever was involved in casting the series deserved an Oscar. What a group of actors and actresses!

Sigh. Me too. I have a whole host of movies I loved him in:
Favorite: Open Range, followed by Secondhand Lion
Then, in no order:
The Godfather
True Grit
Apocalypse Now
The Great Santini
Jack Reacher
A Night in Old Mexico
Tender Mercies
Bullitt
RIP good sir, and thank you for the memories.
Of course, I forgot that one. One of my top three next to “Open Range” and “Secondhand Lions”.
Ah. Yes, I can’t believe I forgot that one in my post above. I was just going down his movies, and forgot the TV Series part
Maybe it is just me, but the adoration, worship, and deification of people in the entertainment industry is sick. The media portrays these folks as perfect “stars.” Really? Just because they someone can act and make a lot of money that makes them as “star”? This world would be much better off with Hollywood.

Can’t do it, Tom.
Ouch! I see what you did there and I laughed, but then it brought tears. I imagine he was ready to go, though, and I hope he was saved and has a reward in heaven for all the joy he gave us in his Shakespearan understanding and portrayals of human nature.
Odd how one of the relatively last big westerns was maybe the best of them all.
I was just recalling that character.
Only Pacino and Talia Shire are left from the main Godfather actors.
