Jeffrey Dahmer: As a child, he decapitated dogs and staked cats to trees, impaling their heads on sticks.
Ted Bundy: Tortured small animals, including cats and dogs, and as a child bought mice at a pet shop to “play God” with their lives.
Dennis Rader (BTK): Tortured animals by hanging and strangling them, later mirroring this “Bind, Torture, Kill” method on humans.
Albert DeSalvo (Boston Strangler): Trapped cats and dogs in boxes, shooting arrows through them for target practice.
Edmund Kemper: Buried the family cat alive, later killing it and another cat before murdering his grandparents and others.
David Berkowitz (Son of Sam): Shot a neighborhood dog before beginning his killing spree
And someone must have known.
I knew a guy in high school who buried a cat up to its neck and then ran it over with a lawnmower. Flash forward and he was convicted of rape and attempted murder. He died in prison.
