The Tesla Model Y was Europe’s most popular electric car in 2025, leading all EV models by a wide margin despite a year marked by production transition, intensifying competition, and anti-Elon Musk sentiments.
The result highlights the Model Y’s continued strength in the region even as Volkswagen overtook Tesla as the top-selling EV brand overall.
As per data compiled by JATO Dynamics and reported by Swedish outlet Allt om Elbil, the Tesla Model Y recorded 149,805 registrations across Europe in 2025. That figure placed it comfortably at No. 1 among all electric car models in the region.
The Model Y’s performance in Europe is particularly notable given that registrations declined 28% year-over-year. The dip coincided with Tesla’s Q1 2025 transition to the updated Model Y, a changeover that temporarily affected output and deliveries in several markets. Anti-Elon Musk sentiments also spread across several European countries amidst the CEO’s work with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Tesla Model Y tops California vehicle sales despite Elon Musk backlash

The Karen-mobile
“The Karen-mobile”
Musk is not a Karen
Tesla’s last earnings was a disappointment. I also have seen various ratings that show Tesla as only middle of the pack as far as reliability. With that said the hate for Musk online is unhinged.
“The Karen-mobile”
Ah..no. I still worry about the AWFUL Karens vandalizing my Y. It is really an amazing vehicle. You can easily do a 30 minute test drive and see for yourself. You show your drivers license. They show you the basics. Then you drive off for 30 minutes by yourself. On return, drop off the key card and you are on your way. No pressure to buy etc. I had no idea how comfortable a vehicle it was. What really sold me was the Full Self Driving. The vehicle can literally drive you from coast to coast.
I have kids with Teslas. They are big fans and repeat buyers. I did ride in a Lucid Air Touring this past fall and THAT really did impress me. Over 500 miles range and an interior luxury that is incredible.
“Tesla’s last earnings was a disappointment.”
Actually came in ABOVE expectations.
“I also have seen various ratings that show Tesla as only middle of the pack as far as reliability”
Nope.
Consistently come in tops in reliability.
Even the top French motor magazine gave Tesla the top ranking in reliability,
And the French currently don’t like Musk or Trump that much.
Have you had to replace anything?
I just posted this on another thread.
One of my friends has a model Y.
70K miles. Three sets of tires. Although one set was replaced after their roof replacement company left nails all over his driveway.
He has had to replace front brakes.
He is at the local Tesla dealership right now getting a headlight replaced. He said they had to remove the bumper.
$1400.
Tesla has greatly improved since their initial auto offerings. They are in the middle of the pack according to Consumer Reports most recent rankings. Keep in mind that CR does a survey annually of their subscribers. You have to fill out their questionaire. Which I understand to be a sample size of around 600K participants. So, from a statistical standpoint it is a large sample.
In addition, they DO NOT take advertising revenue from manufactures.
These rankings are of typically newer autos too. So, even though BMW is ranked fairly high, it is still very expensive to maintain a Beemer once it is 5 years old.
What I do not understand is people who continue to buy Jeeps, Chrysler, Dodge, Jaguar, Land Rover(no longer even on their report they are so bad) and others that are consistently at the bottom of their and JD Power rankings.
One of the things Elon admitted on Joe Rogan was that there is a lot more to producing an automobile than the battery and drive train. When you push the button people actually expect the windows to go down. I am paraphrasing. But is was something like that.
Tesla has come a long way in a relatively short time. Their initial quality was not good. It is now a lot better than it was.
The question I have is how many miles will they actually go before the battery is done and therefore virtually worthless. Then WHAT do they do with the old batteries?
