“An Arizona sheriff is blocking FBI access to key evidence in the investigation into the abduction of U.S. television journalist Savannah Guthrie's mother, impairing its ability to assist in the probe, a U.S. law enforcement official with knowledge of the case told Reuters on Thursday. The FBI asked Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos for physical evidence in the case, including a glove and DNA from the home of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, to be processed at the FBI's national crime laboratory in Quantico, Virginia, but Nanos has insisted instead on using a private lab in Florida, the official said. Outsourcing forensic analysis to a Florida contractor, effectively denying the access of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to crucial evidence in the case, is delaying the FBI ability to assist in the case, according to the official.”

That “sheriff” has been a douchebag since day one. More interested in personal aggrandizement than anything else it would seem.
Sheriff is a Democrat...won a very close (very) election. In AZ. In an area right on the border with Mexico.
My first thought is the crime scene was compromised from the first response before the State or FBI got there. The glove in the house might be sheriff department, tossed during the initial response. May be the sheriff knows who was wearing it. More crap gets missed at first by untrained responders, than we know about. IMO

Same reason the jerks in Minnesota and other Dem-run jurisdictions block federal law enforcement activities in their domains: politics. The sheriff is a Dem and the FBI is seen as a "tool" of Trump. The sheriff also clearly botched the critical first 48 hours of the investigation, so he wants to cover his butt. Far as he is concerned, the fact that a woman's life was on the line is incidental to his politics.
Dem Sheriff hack, wants nothing to do with the FBI that is being run under Trump..the Dem sheriff screwed up this case from the beginning he had egg on his face especially after the feds got the video with the help of google, so they want to be able to say “See look what we found”

Or purposefully not cooperating with the FBI which probably has the resources/tools to help immensely in the investigation. $20 million could do that.

Mark Napier, the previous sheriff of Pima County, was highly esteemed by the deputies under his command. The Pima County sheriff’s department despises Nanos because they know that he would stab them in the back in a heartbeat.
Nanos is a DEI hire and woke activist.

FBI wants it in their better labs in VA.
Any trial and they have to get it eventually in VA. Makes the federal case tougher.
