Hello, all.
I'm considering spending winters in Jacksonville Beach, FL; mainly because I'm tired of the NE winters, this one being particularly bad.
Based on some research I've done, it seems that it may be possible to live within walking (or biking) distance of stores for basic food items, restaurants, etc. (which is what I'm able to do now, and would like to have). JAX airport appears to be about 40 minutes from the beach area, which is not too bad, and the flight down from the NE is only about 2.5 hours which is also nice.

I live about 50 miles S of Jacksonville, just North of Daytona. PM me and we can exchange numbers. I moved here from Seattle 3 years ago. Was originally going to move to Jax but could not find a house that I liked so I ended up further South.
Get ready for heat and humidity.
It starts in January and runs through December! LOL.
Loved the winters there.
You'll get used to the temps and humidity.
The atlantic coast is more urbanized than the gulf coast. Driving down 95 to Miami it has the feel of driving 95 in the northeast. Driving down 75 to Naples does not though 75 can get pretty hairy.
If you’re interested in main cities for living, if I were you I’d compare Jax to Miami, Tampa, and Talahassee if you’ve got the time.
I’ve lived in Duval county (Jacksonville) since 1969.
I’d be glad to answer any questions you may have.
Having said that, may I suggest seriously considering the Palm Coast area between St. Augustine and Daytona.
IMO I think you would be more comfortable there.
Regards, Tim
Stayed Amelia island couple times. Weather varies( it’s not like Sarasota or Naples, better areas.) Also lotsa “ urban” areas, if you catch my drift. Been like Charlotte, if you know what I mean.
Please check your private mail
I own numerous SFHs in Jacksonville and, while I’ve never even been there or lived there, it’s fairly well insulated from hurricanes, statistically. Plus, the best news is that the downtown is being infused with billions of dollars in growth, including a new stadium! The Dem mayor there is very pro capitalism/business, so we expect to see a huge gain in housing equity by 2028! So, if you buy, you should be in a great position, because home prices there are still near bottom. It’s the country’s best kept secret.
IF you buy, I can hook you up with my mortgage guy and my insurance team, who are the best in Jacksonville.
Sis has a condo in Jax but they spend summer in our uncles cabin the high desert of CA
100 degrees, but not 100% humidity
Ha ha! Very true! However, two weeks ago, I had to teach my Jacksonville renters how not to freeze their pipes. Was a first for them! 😜
“including a new stadium!”
You forgot to mention the tax burden that is going to come with that.
And oh by the way, it’s not a “new stadium”, it’s an upgrade to the existing stadium.
But seeing as you stated, you’ve never even been here I guess that explains your ignorance.
Fernandina Beach is the spot up there. Or Amelia or somewhere close.
I have not lived in Jacksonville, but I use to work with a number of people who were at the Jacksonville location for my employer. They love the Jacksonville area and stated Jacksonville is safe from hurricanes (I assume never 100 percent). Just north of Saint Augustine, the Gulf Stream turns NE away from the Florida coast, which protects Jacksonville.
Here is what balletpedia says about her honor.
n her Candidate Connection survey, Deegan said her priorities included “improvements in infrastructure, public health, housing affordability, and an inclusive economy” and that “For too long, that leadership has been lacking in a City Hall that only works for a handful of well-connected people.”
During her first term, Deegan highlighted achievements including a program to improve youth reading levels, a campaign to reduce the number of residents without health insurance, small business programs, an agreement for a new stadium to host the NFL’s Jaguars, a pay raise for firefighters, police and corrections officers. She also ordered the removal of two confederate statutes in a city park.
She is woke and hates Trump.
Oh, well, excuse me, hunny bunches. Jacksonville is getting a $1.4 BILLION "renovation upgrade that isn't a scrape". Feel better, spanky?
Don’t get mad at me because you don’t know what you are talking about
That’s right. Mr. Genius. Send some more people to Tampa. Puerto Rico land. Hillsborough County population pushing 3,000,000. Low riders with NY Yankee stickers on their back rear windows and Puerto Rico flags flying from their rear-view mirrors. Tailgating the hell out of you and flipping you off. Grid lock begins 8am ends 8pm. A sanctuary county in a sea of red. Mosques and bitches in burkas wheeling f’n baby carriages all over the place. With county and state school taxes on private homes up the Kazoo because the f’n leftist public skool indoctrinators got the national teachers unions in here to hijack the school board and the county commission into allowing ALL voters to approve a referendum to increase teacher salaries six thousand dollars a year for three years on the homeowners’ backs. Of course it passed—nobody who voted for it was a homeowner. Biggest item on your tax bill is for the f’n schools for the idiot moron kids they are spitting out. And no school tax exemptions for anybody. You pay them until you die. You want the truth about the west coast I just gave it to you. Been here 40 years same location. Stay the hell away. We don’t need anymore Democrat voters.
I’m originally from Jacksonville and spent half my life at the beach. Winters there are nice. The beach itself is great. There are lots of restaurants and shopping. The airport is north of town out in the sticks. Its not convenient from anywhere. I have no clue why they put it there. 40 minutes seems optimistic.
I’ll take that airport vs flying out of ATL any day of the week!
