Clearly you did not know that, which very much calls into question your implicit claim that you go about armed. You just don’t know the basics.

If you were called for jury duty, would you take a gun to the courthouse because it's your absolute second amendment right to do so, or would you exercise judgment and say that maybe at this place at this time, it's better to leave the gun at home?
If you were going to a protest that had the repeated history of turning violent, not to join the protest but to record the law enforcement officers as they conducted lawful operations in the face of hostile protesters, would you take a gun to the protest because it's your absolute second amendment right to do so, or would you exercise judgment and say that maybe at this place at this time, it's better to leave the gun at home?
If you had two prior hostile engagements with law enforcement officers, the first where you vandalized their vehicle and the second where they restrained you to the point of breaking a rib, would you take a gun to a third encounter with law enforcement officers because it's your absolute second amendment right to do so, or would you exercise judgment and say that maybe at this place at this time, it's better to leave the gun at home?

Rand Paul is a liar, but deflects his lying by claiming other high profile people are liars.
Some people carry what they are comfortable with or the situation warrents...
Some may only need a 7rnd subcompact... other times they get a full sized 15-20 rnd, with possibly extra mags.
If they get concerned, it may be a mp5k in a sling bag...
But in this case, pretti clearly carried a gun and was actively involved in protesting, showing intent to use it against ice officers... because he wasn’t going to be using it on fellow agitators, was he?
There exists a Federal law against bringing a firearm into any Federal facility including the WH. There is no such law prohibiting bringing a firearm to a protest.
Apparently, that wasn't worth arresting him ... and any weapon he might have had at the time was irrelevant to damaging the vehicle (an act which apparently was not worth arresting him) ... since it wasn't worth arresting him, it can't be construed as impairing his right to be armed.
And thus we see an aspect of the problem: a rioter was allowed to riot without being arrested, encouraging further (and worse) riotous conduct.
People who didn't riot at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 were hunted down, arrested, and held under the vilest conditions in prison without having actually committed a crime.
People who do commit riot in various cities throughout these United States are left free to loot, burn, assault, and commit other crimes without fear of arrest much less imprisonment.
It's called "anarcho-tyranny".

The motivation of Paul: Is he on the take or being blackmailed? Is he an infiltrator Commie? Is he just an attention-seeking narcissist loser know-it-all? Nobody knows and nobody cares. He is just a disgraceful betrayer of the Senate, of the GOP's attempt to save the US from Communism, and of our future. In this way he is like most of them in the Senate: compromised, bribed, wet-brained alcoholics or neurosyphilitics. Utterly unprincipled and unpredictable; unreliable, embarrassing.

In many cases, that very much includes extra magazines. There's just nothing abnormal about that, as armed Citizen knows. Trying to make a big deal about it is ignorant.
I suspect that the people who make a big deal about it have zero personal experience with being an armed Citizen.
They don't support that particular platform position you linked, and all of them are pretty favorable towards Trump's immigration and border policies.
My brother (a professional economist with a following) has a huge libertarian streak, and he's a rabid Trump supporting, immigration/border hawk.
It's not an uncommon position. Rand should be as well, but he's just become a grifter.
