In a New York Times opinion piece in August, Canadian writer Stephen Marche wrote: “Canada is living through an era of acute, sustained, profound and abiding rage. The source is President Trump; the object is the United States.” The month before, he launched an eight-part podcast series on Canada’s freshly fraught relationship with what had been its forever friendly neighbor, the United States. The name of the podcast series: Gloves Off.
Hockey term. Of course.
Once arm in arm, the two countries now are squaring off politically, economically—and on the ice. The modern version of their hockey rivalry was spiced up last February when a U.S.-Canada game in the 4 Nations Face-Off, a new international tournament featuring NHL standouts, turned into fight night. The home crowd in Montreal booed “The Star-Spangled Banner,” setting a pugnacious tone, and thereafter the gloves were, indeed, off.

For Trump, life, all areas of it, (sports, finance, business, entertainment, foreign relations, etc), are a life and death struggle with only one winner.
I doubt it. Politics don’t mean 💩, to these guys. They play because they love the sport. The political bullshit is from the management and outside influences. These guys and girls are riding for the brand of course but bottom line, they are winning for their teammates. There’s no “I” in team. I really think the girls play harder for country bragging rights than the guys. JMO
No doubt our flag will be bbed again..
No doubt our flag will be booed again..
The only thing I watch in the Winter Olympics is the hockey. The women’s more than the men’s games. I watch the guys play for their NHL teams. The ladies have no professional league. I watched Tony Granato a long time ago before I knew Tammy Granoto was his sister. Her and the Team USA women’s team was great with her as Captain. Great games on Olympic Ice. Everything in the games fade to me next to the hockey.
Hockey is great, but you can’t miss the men’s downhill in alpine skiing, either!
I ll take that Under advertisement. Ma won’t let me watch Ladies Curlying. 😉
I’ll never forget Franz Klammer in 1976.
I don’t think Wayne can ever go back to Canada again.
Let's hope not...
