He was briefly on the sidelines for the Indiana/Miami National championship game. He looked really old, but not quite as old as Joe Burden. I guess that’s because of the age difference with a fiancée or wife.

John Madden wasn't selected for years because it was thought he might return to coaching from the broadcast booth. So he didn't expect it anymore and was surprised when he was picked.
Highly recommend Madden's books, Hey wait a minute (I wrote a book) and One knee equals two feet

He doesn’t need to be. Joie Gibbs is an example of a HC that returned after entry to the HOF.
