This is not ICEs nor Trumps fault. These are manufactured riots…. Bought and paid for by rich white guys. The blowback is also manufactured by the media. These are law enforcement officers doing their job. Rockers are against criminals being sent home? Who cares. If you show the rich white men financing these riots that their cash can still buy influence and shape federal immigration policy, were doomed.
After 9-11 the big fad was sources, more sources, find under cover sources. The FBI recruited and even paid folks money which were feeding us junk, but when you put agents under pressure to find a source and even hold it against them in their performance rating, what do you think you'll get?
All these departments and agencies have policies, SOPs, they have no different than the Army “battlefield operating systems.” Various specialized groups, processes and systems that are in place to keep things running even as everything goes to shit.
When you sidestep these, when you apply a lot of pressure because you want some result based on some philosophy you hold dear to your heart, you end up with stupid results. You are more or less ignoring where you have had years of trial and error, things run through the courts, people sit down and actually flow chart how things happen, the input of negotiators, crime victim advocates, your lawyers, SWAT, all provided input, and you're over-riding this process by putting folks under pressure to bring some metric.
Army example: post war and in the early Iraq rebuilding, leadership pushed harder and harder for results. They wanted to see Iraqi's assume the missions we were doing. The most senior leaders leaned on their subordinates so hard, that they got all green bubbles on tracking sheets, but it was all nonsense. We had taken Iraqi's we can't really properly vet, gave them inferior equipment, a two-week joke of a training, and then conducted right seat rides (to give them operational experience with us) which was also a joke. Just because you say something, force your will on a subordinate, won't make things work your way. Through sheer willpower, you can't always get your way, despite the philosophy of Nietzsche being very popular today.
—This is a common problem when you get the Obama (a lowly community organizer, junior Congressman - no real experience) or Adolf (a corporal) type leader, a person that intellectually is operating at a tactical level but somehow managed to skip everything and jumped to the top in a strategic minded position.
—Another common problem is that folks guided by some philosophy seldom want to accept that there is a functional reason for why things are the way they are. They want to pretend that things are merely the way they are because of some conflict theory, incompetence, or corruption. This allows them to give any ideas which may stand in their way no thought, no different than the Putin madman argument. This way of thinking avoids the idea that things has a purpose and instead of asking question and making incremental changes, it allows you to chop away at something mindlessly.
They lack a “systems sense,” and as they go in with a hatchet and sidestep all the institutional experience, they often end up falling on their face.
Trump has done a lot of good, and more is to come I am sure, but when you push too hard, you're setting folks up for failure, including yourself.
