JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Four Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department firefighters have been reassigned to administrative duties following their arrest on misdemeanor charges after paintballs struck a police patrol car, traffic signs, and a civilian vehicle near a downtown fire station late last month.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened on Dec. 29 near Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department Station 4, located at 639 W. Duval St. at West Jefferson Street in the LaVilla area.
JSO charged each firefighter with criminal mischief, saying the paintball damage occurred during what investigators described as a firefighter “prank war.”
Police say an officer driving a marked patrol vehicle near North Jefferson and West Duval streets noticed multiple impacts on the car. When the officer stopped to check the damage, several green paint splatters were found on the vehicle.
Around the same time, a civilian driver reported his car had also been struck by paintballs in the same area, according to JSO.
Investigators later determined that paintballs also hit an abandoned building, the roadway and a dumpster
As previously reported by News4JAX, all four firefighters initially denied responsibility for the incident, even after witnesses told police they saw someone run back into the fire station following the paintball gunfire.
Because of the denials, patrol officers transferred the case to the Jacksonville Integrity Unit for an internal investigation. Noncustodial interviews with city employees were conducted on Jan. 22, ultimately leading to misdemeanor charges against all four firefighters.
In a statement posted to Facebook on Jan. 23, JFRD said all four firefighters have been reassigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

I can’t wait to see this episode in one of Hollyweird’s “first responder” love fest shows.
I was an idiot at that age as well but I doubt I woulda put my career as a city Fire rescue on the line for thst jackassery.
One summer I had quite a few pink squrrels running around the yard.
If these guys are any good, and they are, they should get an unpaid day off and a stern letter in their file , one sentence long that says, “Dumbass, don’t get caught doing this again “.

That kind of stuff has been going on since firefighters and cops have been in existence. I know the Chiefs of both sides in my town, and they’ve told me countless stories. Where these young men messed up is by denying it and shooting a civvie’s car and the other property. Had they just admitted it, the entire thing probably would’ve gone away after a very nice ass chewing, but since they lied, it had to be reported. It was out of their hands after that. And I would agree with you... dumbasses. 100% pure dumbassery.

Why can’t they play checkers or pinochle like normal firemen?
My dad was a firefighter when they were firemen. This is a little extreme but it sounds like a lot of stories I heard when I was growing up. Biggest problem is their denial.
Their biggest problem now is not the paint balls but lying about it. Integrity issues get you fired very quickly.
Message to fire fighters and others: Cops don’t respond with paint ball guns after they think they have been fired upon.
Yeah. Shooting a cop car is not a good idea.
There is a standing prank between our local police department and the fire department where the FD will hang donuts on the tree outside the PD office and the cops will hang Dalmatian decorations on the tree at the FD. But no one shoots paintballs at each other.

As firefighters, dumbasses get lots of down time and the company of other dumbasses.
