Meteorologists warn of ‘exploding trees’ as brutal cold snap expected to usher in subzero temps

A tree-mendous freeze.

Forecasters are warning that expected subzero temperatures could cause trees to explode as a brutal cold snap is expected to wallop most of the country in the coming days.

Trees may split and burst across the Midwest and Northern Plains Friday and Saturday as a bitter Arctic blast from Canada sends temperatures plunging to roughly 20 degrees below zero, according to social media meteorologist Max Velocity.

“EXPLODING TREES are possible in the Midwest and Northern Plains on Friday and Saturday, as temperatures are forecasted to fall 20 degrees BELOW zero!” the YouTuber, who has about 1.55 million subscribers, said in an X post Tuesday night.

Rebecca Ann, another social media weather buff, noted that although rare, the environmental phenomenon can threaten healthy and weakened trees in extremely frigid conditions.

We prefer Ryan Hall to Max...

NOT looking forward to the ice they are now predicting we will get. I would have preferred the snow. I just know the power is going to go out...

I’ve been hearing a lot of made up names lately. They act like it’s normal.

The absolute effing stupidity never ceases when it comes to journalism. We live in a forest where temps get down to minus 40 degrees. Never, not once has a tree ever exploded.

Just where do these mindless maggots come up with this crap? Is this the new scare that replaces glowbull warming? Are we now supposed to be afraid the earth is going to explode from being too cold? What will the brainwashed generations do now that their glowbull warming is now second place to glowbull cooling?

Growing up in Alaska in the 70’s and 80’s...I don’t know how I survived the exploding trees every winter. /s

“Mr President, in my opinion we need to immediately take action to close the exploding tree gap with the communists!”

Paraphrasing George C. Scott of course.

My furnace has been out for the last four days. Waiting for a part. We’ve been practicing the power outage game. I have a cheap chinese diesel heater we use for camping. It’s doing a masterful job keeping key areas of the house toasty warm. It does require electricity and is plugged into the house right now but I have a Jackery battery which will run the heater for 2-3 days before needing a charge.

I’ve been living in the very cold climate of Canada for the past 63 years and I’ve seen some brutally cold winters... I am surrounded by lots and lots of trees and I don’t ever recall ever seeing one explode... Empirical evidence that this exploding tree claim is complete BS... But I’m pretty sure they have somebody who claims they’ve seen exploding trees before... Just like All Gore can see the rocks on top of Mount Kilimanjaro, when it has been covered in snow for as long as humans have known it and it still continues to be covered in snow.

When I was a little boy, my grandpa told me he had seen trees pop open due to the cold here in Louisiana.

She said, “ across the Midwest and Northern Plains”. Fact is below zero temperatures there aren't unusual. I live in warmer Pennsylvania where I've seen 20 below and we didn't have “exploding trees”.
Southern tree species are another story.

OMG! Our country has turned into a bunch of wusses. “Plunging to -20°”... It’s winter, for crying out loud. We were stationed in northern Maine in the 1980’s, the only time the kids didn’t have outdoor recess was when the temps hit -30°!

Growing up in rural area near Buffalo, Dad’s office was in the church, but the phone was in the parsonage on a lot separated by a big yard and two driveways.

If a call came for him, I would go barefoot through deep (lake effect) snow to get him. No coat — of course.

Now we have a civilization of weak drama queens.

Oh my God..during Obama and Biden time, there was nothing about climate change, now there are stories about it. Climate Change must be smart, it knows when a Republican is in the White House!!

Or the journalists are lying!!

Hell, I used to share a bed with my ex wife and her temperature frequently plunged to -30F and less.

This is for real. We saw it happen in Montana while I was stationed at Malmstrom AFB.

The Chinook winds would warm up the trees then an Alberta Clipper would blow through and pop the limbs off. You could hear them go but it was nothing as spectacular as a mini nuke.

Ok, after reading the excerpt, I’ll just leaf now.

Wood you please stay? If you go, the FR would pine for your return.

I’m hoping the four big trees in our backyard will explode. Then I’ll have a decent view of the night sky with my telescope.

I can’t cut them down, because we live in an apartments complex. 🔭🔭🔭
