Nick Reiner ‘almost childlike in jail’ after parents’ alleged murders, Fox Nation documentary reveals

A new “TMZ Investigates” special on Fox Nation claims Nick Reiner is in no mental state to stand trial for the alleged murders of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, as the program reveals new details about his mental state, medication changes and the case against him.

“He is not competent to stand trial right now. He is almost childlike in jail, we’re told,” TMZ executive producer Harvey Levin told “Fox & Friends” on Monday.

“He can’t process the consequences of what he’s done. He knows what he did. He just can’t understand where he is right now, and I know that sounds crazy, but he is out of his head right now.”

Doctors had changed Nick’s medication a month before the murders due to his complaints of weight gain, and that adjustment “messed Nick up,” Levin said, explaining that Nick was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder — which can cause delusions, hallucinations and mood disorders.

Levin described the alleged murders as “incredibly brutal.”

“We know people in the medical examiner’s office who are traumatized just by the pictures,” he said.

He claimed the killings had “all the markings of a meth murder” and that Nick had been using meth when he was “off the rails” after his medication switch-up, adding that he was arrested in a drug den.

“It has the markings of somebody who was just wild, wildly strong. We have not gotten the confirmation of that, but we’ve talked to people… If he were just Nick Reiner without something additional, the carnage wouldn’t have been the way it was,” Levin said.

As soon as I discovered they were killed in their bed I suspected he went to the house to kill them and take all cash he found to go buy drugs. I suspect that even more now.

What is an “alleged” murder?

One you can’t be sued over if you use that term.

Voluntary intoxication is not a defense to a crime.

“””Voluntary intoxication is not a defense to a crime.”””

But is sounds cool. Even if it has no meaning at all or effect on the case.

I had three cousins who were not competent due to retardation, autism, etc. They were never aggressive and never robbed or killed anyone. If they had I would say they should suffer the same punishment as a person who is “normal”. Once a person commits murder they should never be free, out on the streets again. I’d say lock them up.

Long past time to reopen the mental hospitals closed in the 1970s! When closed and the crazies declared sane enough to be dumped on the streets the murder rate by crazies took off like a rocket!

A psychotic friend of mine takes meds, but when they need to be changed, he is admitted to hospital.

I think we’re past the point of the murders being “alleged”. If not, then somebody better call the undertaker!

Just read the headline, but have to observe, why is anyone interested in this man? He butchered his parents.

The insanity defense is extremely rare in practice because the legal standard is tough to meet and juries hate it. The alternative in criminal defense is to argue diminished capacity and a lack of premeditation in the hope of lessening the charges and for leniency in sentencing.

Nick Reiner is currently charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders. Conviction means 25 years to life, without parole if special circumstances are found, which seems certain under such a charge is pursued and sustained.

However, the State of California punishes voluntary manslaughter with anywhere from 3 to 11 years in prison. A clear path to such an outcome for Reiner is to prove mental illness as a basis for diminished capacity and lack of full premeditation.

That is probably where the case is headed. Despite the extreme violence of the crime and the celebrity of the victims, this is basically a case of killings by a mentally ill meth head known for bitter arguments with his parent victims.

That being so, the crime under California law is voluntary manslaughter, not first degree murder. That makes for a limited prison term.

Maybe they should mind their own business.
