Disastrous poll shows Trump’s White House return is a ‘failure’: Americans say he’s ‘gone too far’ (CNN poll)

President Donald Trump’s second term has been a debacle, according to a damning new CNN poll released Friday.

A majority of Americans polled in the survey -- 58% -- characterized Trump’s first year of his second term as a “failure,” according to the poll.

Just 42% of respondents said Trump’s second term has been a success.

There were virtually no silver linings for the president in the survey.

A plurality of respondents said Trump “made things worse” on several issues he outlined in his inauguration speech, while a lion’s share of those polled said the president has “gone too far” in exercising his power in numerous areas.

More respondents than not said Trump “made things worse” on:

Restoring safety to the United States (39% to 35% who said he made progress)

Bringing law and order back to our cities (42% to 33%)

Bringing back free speech to America (41% to 27%)

Keeping our children safe, healthy and disease free (40% to 26%)

Being a peacemaker and unifier (47% to 25%) Stopping the weaponization of the Justice Department (41% to 21%)

Majorities of respondents said Trump went to far making changes to cultural institutions (62%), using the power of the presidency and the executive branch (58%), cutting federal government programs (57%) and changing the way the United States government works (51%.)

An overwhelming majority -- 64% -- said Trump hasn’t gone far enough trying to reduce the price of everyday goods, while 10% said he has gone too far and 26% said his approach has been about right.

The poll recorded Trump’s approval rating at 39%, with the president struggling to win over independents, who support him at only a 29% clip.

He has virtually no support from Democrats while 9 in 10 Republicans back Trump.

Some of us want more “Andrew Jackson” out of this presidency. If they think you are an SOB, be one.

Well, maybe the best we can hope for is to ram through as much of a return to common sense as possible this year and accept that MAGA will be pretty much on hold at least until the 2028 election after the Dems impeach Trump. Unless they win the Senate too, in which case we’ll see what JD can do a bit before then.

It all reminds me of the “polls” Calvin reported to his dad about his “job performance.”

“Time for bed, Calvin.”

“Ooh! Your approval numbers just took a hit!”

I always ask, how much is your county charging for permitting fees, new homes , how about policy’s on last use. Those drive up costs. Democrats want dense housing, and this actually lowers birth rates in our country. If you know you are going to live in a 2 bedroom apartment for the foreseeable future, are you going to have more than 1 or 2 kids, the answer is no.

“This is a CNN poll. Be very skeptical.”

Of course, but CNN did not actually conduct the poll. Rather SSRS conducted the poll on behalf of CNN. Here is a link to the poll results and methodology: https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/26490187/cnn-poll-on-trump-at-one-year.pdf.

A few things jump out at me:

1. Methodology (p. 26). Not a lot of details other than SSRS surveyed 1,209 adults (18+) by web and phone who sit on the “SSRS Opinion Panel”; the sample population self-identified as 298% RAT, 29% GOP, and 44% independent; and “entire sample was weighted to reflect national Census figures for gender, age, education, race, Hispanic Nativity,
and census region. The sample was also weighted to reflect benchmarks for population density, civic engagement,
and Pew Research Center’s NPORS figures for religious affiliation and frequency of internet use.” The methodology does not provide a numerical breakdown by age, race, ethnicity, or geographic location. That failure alone makes me skeptical.

2. the “SSRS Opinion Panel” (referenced in the prior paragraph) is “is comprised of a nationally representative group of panelists randomly selected throughout the United States who have agreed to share their opinions,” in exchange for payment. (https://ssrsopinionpanel.com/about/.) In other words, the poll surveys the opinions of professional survey panelists.

3. The poll questions cover ~ 40 pages. In my opinion, too many questions that tax an honest person’s attention span.

4. Perhaps most surprising, a similar poll concerning Biden’s first year (p, 13) is almost identical to the Trump poll: Do you consider the first year of the Biden administration to be: 41: a success, 57% a failure, and 2% no opinion.

Sigh- always the same bag of tricks from the Legacy Media.

Report your lies and then produce, yes produce a poll showing everyone agrees with you. If the democrats were chucking puppies into wood chippers and Trump tried to stop them, CNN would produce a poll showing how everyone supported puppies into wood chippers.

Another day, same ole echo chamber.
