- The trial for Burlington couple Becky Hamber and Brandy Cooney began in mid-September in Ontario Superior Court in Milton and resumed this week. It’s before a judge alone, Justice Clayton Conlan.

- Both women have pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder of a 12-year-old boy, and confinement, assault with a weapon and failing to provide the necessaries of life to his younger brother. The couple had been trying to adopt the boys, who had been in their care for about five years.

- Hamber, in the witness box for a second day, testified she and Cooney had a lot of difficult times with the two brothers, but both loved them. The couple also struggled with getting help from Ottawa and Halton children’s aid societies, Hamber tells court.

- The Indigenous boys’ identities are protected under a publication ban. CBC is referring to the older boy as L.L., who died Dec. 21, 2022, and his brother as J.L., who is now 13 and testified earlier in the trial.

Putting aside the actions of the foster parents, kids who were in the system at their ages, their behavior was likely hard wired for life. And there is no amount of psychiatric treatment that would ever return them to normal.

There's an infrequent poster here who took in a 5 year old thru his church that had never been potty trained, and was still using a diaper.

As hard as they tried to work with this child, the child became a threat to his daughters and ultimately he had to return the little boy to the state.
