Watch the Remaining Doors Play ‘Riders on the Storm’ With International Musicians
UltimateClassicRock ^ | January 10, 2026 | Allison Rapp

John Densmore and Robby Krieger – the two surviving members of the Doors – have appeared in a new music video with Playing for Change, the nonprofit project that brings together artists from all different countries and genres of music.

This time, the chosen song was the Doors' "Riders on the Storm." In addition to Densmore and Krieger, other musicians included Lukas Nelson and Micah Nelson — sons of Willie Nelson — Don Was, Foo Fighters' Rami Jaffee, the Lakota Drum Group and many others.

"Vocally, Lukas Nelson filled Jim Morrison's leather pants quite well!" Densmore said in a statement (via Consequence). "Ray [Manzarek] would be proud of the way Rami Jaffee 'channeled' the piano solo. Mark Johnson masterminded a beautiful video."

"Seeing musicians from different cultures come together around this song means a lot," Krieger added. "Playing for Change is doing important work to unite people across the globe."

What Is Playing for Change?

Playing for Change was founded in 2002, and since then has worked with over 1,000 musicians from over 50 countries, showcasing the talents of those from all walks of musical life. Numerous rock legends have participated in the project over the years, including Bono, Keith Richards, the Doobie Brothers, Jackson Browne, Tom Morello, David Crosby, Robbie Robertson and many more.

"We had the idea to travel around the world, record different musicians playing their own songs, interview them about how does music persevere through struggles, and then connect them with the songs around the world," cofounder Mark Johnson explained of the project's origins to ABC News in 2009. "The idea is to show people enough different cultures using music to uplift themselves, so that we can see the connections we all have."

Nope, not even close. Cool graphic created video accompaniment tho.

Disclaimer: Riders on the Storm is one of my all time favorite rock songs, so I have a right to be personally critical.

Many FreeRepublic posters have “barf alert” warnings on certain content. I propose, if you post a link that would take over a minute to see the content because of excessive advertising, that posters place an “advertising alert” on the title of your posts so we will not have to waste our time dealing with it.

That was great. Ray was one of the best keyboardists ever. RIP.

Point granted, criticism duly noted.

Riders is a great song, though not one of my all time favorites. Having been in Doors cover bands in years past, and still covering a few these days, I guess I'm pretty forgiving to various "alternate arrangements". :-)

I enjoyed this arrangement a lot, though the third-world stuff was a bit distracting.

It’s good but you don’t get that dark echoing Jim Morrison dread whiskey voice. There’s something lost when he passed because his voice was one of a kind.

Hop you didn't spill your juice box on your Matel keyboard when pounding on the giant colors. Next time you are getting your diaper changed grab the link and watch it on another browser like Brave where there are no ads.

I just use Brave Browser. Occasionally vids will “hang”, and one has to try again, but, there are no ads, unless they are part of the vid itself.

This one played fine for me once I found the vid in the article.

Granted that I use 3 different browsers depending on what I’m doing. Brave just works best for me for most purposes.

I hope everybody adopts my proposed “advertising alert”. It would be good policy. And maybe put a “juvenile name caller” on your posts.

Playing For Change has done some amazing stuff.

Their versions of The Weight and When The Levy Breaks are incredible.
