The mysterious “flying Pentagon” was spotted in Los Angeles, igniting a flurry of social media speculation and conspiracy theories about serious trouble ahead.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth was aboard the aircraft, commonly known as the “Doomsday Plane” when it touched down at Los Angeles International Airport Thursday night.
Hegseth is currently traveling on his “Arsenal of Freedom” tour, which aims to spotlight the U.S. defense industrial base and boost military recruiting, the Department of Defense confirmed to the Post.
Also aboard the plane was right-wing internet personality Laura Loomer. Posting on social media, Loomer said Hegseth called enlistees at the Los Angeles Military Entrance Processing Station “real elites and one percenters” for committing their lives to “God and Country.”
“Is it any wonder why U.S. military recruitment is soaring?” Loomer wrote, crediting Hegseth.
One user on X even referred to Hegseth as “badass.”
“This is essentially a nuclear-proof, airborne command unit,” one user on X wrote. The account, @ConcernedCitizen, which has more than one million followers, added: “Probably not a good sign.”

In all seriousness, the fear of attack on LA may have been the motivation for the Japanese internment camps.
I’m reading the New Yorkers from Nov 1941-Mar 1942. NYC also thought it would be bombed.

The water is likely cold since it is super early in the morning where I’m at.
Father was stationed in NYC during WWII and I was born on an army base in the harbor. Mother described driving thru the blacked-out city at night to get to the ferry and having to peer at the traffic lights with tiny X’s cut into black tape to navigate the streets.
When they were stationed at a seaside city in New Jersey, she said they could stand on the beach and watch tankers hit by Japanese submarines on fire. The fuel from the ships would cover the beach and water and it was always a job to clean off my older brother if he went into the water.
I was raised in Chicago, which she said was hardly aware of there being a war on, as no blackouts, etc.
Don’t worry, Capt. “Wild Bill” Kelso is on patrol over LA and will deal with any enemy incursions.

It used to be stationed at March AFB when Reagan was at his ranch. There were rumors that people’s garage doors were randomly opening or closing as scrambled messages were sent out across different radio frequencies. I have absolutely no idea if such a thing could be true.
I heard it was there to pick up Newsome and dump him into the Pacific. 🤪

NYC resisted the blackout as “bad for business” but the city lights would silhouette ships for U-boats. It was a huge battle to get them off.
