Dr. Marty Makary says the creators of the old food pyramid hid the truth about saturated fats.“The propagators of this dogma tried to prove their theory correct.”
“In the 1960s, the colleagues of Ansel Keys tried to do the end-all study to prove saturated fat caused our health problems.”
“The low-fat group had higher rates of coronary heart disease and heart attacks.”
“The opposite of what they expected.”
“They suppressed the data for 16 years.”
“When you avoid fat, you end up with ultra-processed carbohydrates and sugar.”
“We created a generation of children with low protein, high carbohydrates, sugar addiction, burdened with ultra-processed foods.”
“Those days are over. Are telling people the truth about food.”
Not being a city drone for most of my life I lucked out and already know that. Just keep moving is the most important thing, don’t be sedentary.
nothing is true
Remember the sham Snackwell cookies back in the 90s? They took the fat out and replaced it with sugar to keep the cookies moist. Same caloric count as the regular cookies made with fat.
Or they replaced the lard and beef fat..which are natural..out of the baked goods and replaced it with hydrogenated fats..which are chemically altered vegetable fats so they have a long shelf life.
It’s the sugar. Read Dr. Casey Means book.
It has been known for years that inuit populations that have very high fat diets from fish, seal meat, and whale blubber, and virtually no sugar or carbs have amongst the lowest incidence of cardiovascular disease (and diabetes) on the planet.
100% correct. My daily 30 minute walk is keeping me heart disease free. I will burn 86 candles in couple of months. I eat hamburgers, cheesecake, ham, fish & chicken frequently.
As I recall they said from the start that growing children still needed full fat and not to restrict them to the low fat versions. I know I raised mine who were born in the nineties without switching from full fat to low fat and health definitely did not suffer.
I myself went back and forth but eventually ditched the low fat substitutes for me. My husband would never eat the low fat stuff.
Don’t eat anything from a box, bag, or a jar without reading the side.
Sugar in moderate amounts has not hurt me at all. I love cheesecake and toast with strawberry jelly & butter. But I eat small servings each day. Salt is bigger enemy for me. All frozen foods such as pizza and canned soups are loaded with sodium and Jack up my blood pressure. I try to cook from scratch as much as pisdible. No heart attacks, no strokes, no circulation problems in legs, and take only one Rx of 10 mg Lisinopril as a precaution for high blood pressure.
I eat lots of strawberry jelly with high fructose corn syrup. No health issues nearing age 86. The key is movement, not foods. I never miss 30 minute brisk walk every day 365 days a year.
I also consume cola one can every day, with high fructose sweetener. Not causing diabetes or weight gain.
Jack Sprat could eat no fat. His wife could eat no lean.
So betwixt the two of them they licked the platter clean.
I learned this at age 2 or 3.
Note that the implication is that it was protein on the plate.
The broader childhood lesson: We are not all the same.
The DEMOCRACY IN AMERICA lesson. The government should not impose one-size-fits-all on Americans. The FREEDOM TO CHOOSE is best for Americans.
Ancel Keys killed more Americans than Fauci.
I move around a lot and spend an hour plus every day in the gym (weights and cardio) and I eat pretty much whatever I want (in discretion). At mid 60’s I have 8% body fat and have no health issues. Portion control, moving and lifting things is the key.
Far in advance of this in 1973, Woody Allen’s movie “Sleeper.”
Dr. Melik: This morning for breakfast he requested something called “wheat germ, organic honey and tiger’s milk.”
Dr. Aragon: [chuckling] Oh, yes. Those are the charmed substances that some years ago were thought to contain life-preserving properties.
Dr. Melik: You mean there was no deep fat? No steak or cream pies or... hot fudge?
Dr. Aragon: Those were thought to be unhealthy... precisely the opposite of what we now know to be true.
Dr. Melik: Incredible.
Which takes it out of the realm of negligence and beyond reckless endangerment.
You are doing great, except IMHO skip lifting weights
Bulking up after age 60 is more harmful than useful. Regilar Cardio is all you need and is very beneficial to avoid heart issues.
Agree that diet needs are different for different people. Unless you have type O blood, too much meat may not be best.
One thing which is great for every human regardless of race is movement. 5000+ steps each day is beneficial to every human from age 25 to 95.
