Dilbert creator Scott Adams warned that his Thursday podcast might be his last.
Adams opened his podcast explaining how he’s now having difficulty staying awake, and that his exhaustion and slurred voice have nothing to do with any medication. “Today’s going to be a tough one,” he said. “Because I fell asleep about five times just getting ready” for the show.
Adams announced his prostate cancer diagnosis last May, and that the cancer had already “spread to my bones.”
At the time, he wasn’t certain he would last the summer. He did. But earlier this month, he announced his chances of surviving were now down to zero and that he expected to “transition” sometime in January. Since then, he’s become noticeably weaker.
For the next 30 minutes of his Thursday podcast, Adams went on with his regular routine, where he runs through the day’s headlines and offers his thoughts, which have been insightful and unique enough to earn him a huge following outside and on top of the Dilbert fan base.
In the show’s final minutes, however, Adams said, “As of today, based on how I feel, I don’t know if there will be a show tomorrow or ever again. If I feel better, there will be.”
He added, “If I feel the way I felt today, this might be the last show. But I don’t know that for sure. I’ll probably be fast asleep two minutes after I’m done here.”
“Thank you for all the support, this crazy support,” he said to his fans. “Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. Thank you for letting me come into your home and simultaneously sip with you.”
He then explained why Thursday morning’s show might be his last. “I’ve also been told that my mental acuity is

This concerned me, too. But as long as he get there, that's all that matters.
This is a recurring urgency in Scripture that most people miss or forget. It's almost like an "act now, or it could be too late" scenario.
'Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: '
-- Isaiah 55:6
He is on today (right now) on January 9. He looks good, but his speech is sometimes slurred. He is not on pain killers, but has some degree of speech paralysis.
Yep.
I knew what you meant.
Agreed on the “as long as he gets there” - but when the end could come any day now and he is still talking in the future tense of converting it sounds like there is a sizeable chance that he won’t get there in time.
This....so much this. Its heartbreaking and infuriating at the same time. I feel certain that the powers that be in these pharma Companies (et al) will face the harshest of judgement.
Ive lost all faith in the entire medical establishment.
Cities are easier targets.
Why is it always the conservative voices that die?.....its suspicious to me..starting with Tony snow..andrew..rush...
If you are a shooter it would seem obvious that hitting small targets is infinitely harder than hitting large targets. Also blowing something up with no consideration is vastly easier than a pinpoint hit that minimizes collateral damage.
That said there maybe something to nearly killing a patient to tame the cancer.
“…it’s people I know I’ll never see again. And that’s pretty tough, pretty tough.”
Perhaps, one day in Heaven…
As a bit of a tribute and a 'thanks for all the fish', i put this together to post online in the hopes he'll see it.
Please feel free to steal it and repost if you want. The more the merrier.
That’s one reason why the men die of “something else”...cause the signs and symptoms of beginning prostate cancer aren’t obvious. The diagnosis of early, early cancer is difficult. If they could absolutely diagnosis early, early cancers there would be much more successful therapy. IMHO.
I don’t understand how one can decide to truly believe at a certain time. What is he holding out for? If he miraculously is healed, will he go back to doubt and disbelief?
Hate to say it, but either one believes now, or one is piddlin’ around.
God will judge this matter. I am glad that God is merciful, and will judge righteously.
But the essential beliefs Peter, Paul and apostles preached was that the redeemed are those who have been spiritually born of the Spirit (Jn. 3:2-7) by effectual, penitent, heart-purifying, regenerating justifying faith (Acts 10:43-47; 15:7-9; Titus 3:5) in the Divine Son of God sent be the Father to be the Savior of the world, (1 Jn. 4:14) who saves sinners by His sinless shed blood, on His account. (Rm. 3:25; Col. 1:14; 1 Jn. 4:10)
And which effectual faith is imputed for righteousness, (Gn. 15:6; Rom 4:5; 2 Co. 5:21; 2 Timothy 1:9) and is confessed by baptism (Mk. 16:16; Acts 2:38-47 - to obey is to believe vice versa - Acts 8:36,37; 10:46,47; Rm. 10:9,10) and following their Lord thru the Spirit. (Jn. 10:27, 28; Rom. 8:14; 1 Thessalonians 1:3,4; Heb. 6:9-12)
To whom true believers shall directly go to be with at death, or His return. (Acts 7:59; Phil. 1:23; 2Cor. 5:8; Heb. 12:22,23; 1Cor. 15:51ff'; 1Thess. 4:17; Rev. 6:9)
In contrast to those who were never born of the Spirit, or who terminally fall away. (1 Corinthians 9:27; Gal. 5:1-4; Heb. 3:12; Heb. 10:25-39; 2 Pt. 1:10) Glory and thanks be to God.
I read his original post regarding the “conversion” - it appears to be a false conversion. He does not acknowledge sin, the nature of Jesus Christ, or his need to be saved. It appears to be an intellectual exercise only.
It’s a “try Christianity” because he admires some characteristics of Christians, but he does not bow down to the Savior.
His attitude appears to be a bit flippant, because he stated that if Christianity is real, then he wakes up in heaven, but if not, then no loss because there is no afterlife.
It saddens me. I hope I am incorrect in my understanding of his words.
I feel sad for Adams but he has found the key to salvation. God be with him now and forever.
Interesting that Joe Biden also has terminal prostate cancer, but is still wandering around. I expected him to have assumed room temperature by now.
Faith can be measured through Works.
Follow your own path when it comes to modern medicine.
As for me, I will probably refuse a biopsy and go buy a pack of smokes, a bottle of redstag, and get ripped and then go on a month long road trip. Visit friends and family.
Then come home and live each day thanking God for the life He gave me, good times and bad.
Is he baptized? Or is he about to receive Baptism?
It’s never too late! But it’s too bad he did not receive Christ a lot sooner than on his deathbed!
