Mickey Rourke fundraiser seeks to keep him in his LA home

An online fundraiser has been launched to prevent Oscar-nominated actor Mickey Rourke from being thrown out of his Los Angeles home.

Recent news reports said Rourke’s landlord was trying to evict him for what the owner said was $60,000 in back rent on the $7,000-a-month residence.

On Sunday, a GoFundMe page for Rourke, 73, asked fans and supporters to help chip in to raise $100,000 to help the actor “cover immediate housing-related expenses.”

“Mickey Rourke is an icon—but his trajectory, as painful as it is, is also a deeply human one,” a message on the page says. “It is the story of someone who gave everything to his work, took real risks, and paid real costs. Fame does not protect against hardship, and talent does not guarantee stability.”

Organizers of the effort say they have Rourke’s permission to launch the fundraiser, which, as of Sunday evening, had amassed more than $37,000.

Rourke, a New York native, was a rising film star in the 1980s with credits that included “Diner,” “Rumble Fish” and “Angel Heart” before reported personal problems and a foray into boxing derailed his career. The actor regained traction in the early 2000s with acclaimed character roles in such films as “Sin City” and “Iron Man 2.”

Rourke was nominated for an Oscar for his lead performance in 2008’s “The Wrestler,” a gritty portrait of a former professional wrestler’s decline.

“The goal is simple: to give Mickey stability and peace of mind during an extremely stressful time—so he can stay in his home and have the space to get back on his feet,” the GoFundMe message said.

His rent is $7,000 a month. He's $60,000 in arrears. And they want a gofund drive to keep him in that house. The target amount would give him about 6 months cushion.

Then what? He'll be facing eviction again. This is a poorly thought out plan.

Rent? He never bought a home?

Don't know how you made that leap. I don't have any of the homes I ever bought.
I rent now, too.

Dude spent a lot of money ruining his face.

In the boxing ring - or on the operating table?

Probably both!

has he tried selling items he owns? tried finding a cheaper place? most of us have to tighten the budget, sell things, move at times.
I don’t understand how he thinks he cannot have to sincerely change in every way possible, but instead, ask others to help him remain the same.

Dude spent a lot of money ruining his face. He was once a good actor. Now he is uglier than hell.

He could try for a career in radio.

$7000 a month?????

Dude needs to move. Not anyone’s responsibility to fund his ‘Hunter Biden’ costing digs.

There’s a house trailer on the edge of Wewa that is for rent for $450 per month. I suggest moving and lower you out-of-pocket costs per month.

I suspect tome inaccuracy in the reporting.

$60,000/ $7,000= 8.57 .

Thet is, he is 8.57 months in arrears.

His foray into boxing rearranged his face. The surgery was probably to repair it. He must have hired a blind plastic surgeon because he turned out like a monster.

He is needing money because that face was an end to his career.

Thorough planning and careful preparation is no substitute for wishful thinking. And a gofundme page on facebook.

Living here in Appalachia I can’t even begin to imagine what $7,000.00 a month rent would give you in the way of housing.

He was very handsome. He kind of disappeared and we could see why. Mickey was a nut like many Hollywood types are.

In the 1980s, Mickey Rourke had it all. He was an A list star, he made millions from his movies. He was very good looking and got any woman he wanted. His story is a cautionary tale.
