Dinner at Eight is a 1933 comedy-drama film directed by George Cukor, based on George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber's 1932 play. It features an ensemble cast of Marie Dressler, John Barrymore, Wallace Beery, Jean Harlow, Lionel Barrymore, and Billie Burke.

As an aspiring New York socialite prepares for a lavish dinner party, her guests find themselves in a tangle of business, romantic, and personal crises - all of which come to a head on the big night.

Check out Marie Dressler’s double-take when Harlow’s character states that she has actually read a book. It leads to Dressler’s last line, which is a doozy.

Great cast. Great movie.
Don’t forget Billie Burke - who was the good witch in the Wizard of Oz
