CitiBike is jacking up prices for the straight fifth year and partly blaming tariffs — demanding 41% higher membership rates and at least 240% more from casual cyclists since the program began in 2019.
“This adjustment is necessary to manage increased operational expenses, including the impact of rising tariffs,” Citi Bike wrote in a statement.

Yah, SURE /laughs ... Us deplorable bitter clingers in the NYC suburbs really believe any of the nonsensical excuses about *anything* that any of the silly screwball leftists of NYC say, ehhhhh ??? /laughs
Here we have a NYC based, public bicycle short term rental program, sponsored by a U.S. mega-Corporation, CitiCorp; run by a U.S. based ride sharing Corporation; Lyft ... which is kinda a bit of a nice thing as it were .... b-b-bb-but supposedly, according Lyft and CitiCorp, a 240% increase in street bicycle rental prices from 2019 to 2025 is due to "Tariffs" ... as if the street price for a rental bike in NYC has anything to do with international trade involving 'tariffs' !!! /laughs
Only some dopey full-tilt TDS Leftist idiot could ever come up with such nonsense, but yet they do ... YIKES !!!
They could try and work down the rental, to absorb some of the tariffs.
From what I see. I’ll have me some more of these tariffs!
New Yorker’s are so naive. You can buy a bike cheaper than renting it. But there must be some government kickback scheme involve in this. $239.00 a year to rent one for a year
Many New Yorkers live in 400sqft apartments. They don’t have the room for a bicycle.
20'x20' tiny squalors with perhaps a bathroom (if they're lucky) and a lil' Kitchenette (if they're *really* lucky) ... $2000 to $3000 per month for this squalor, which is over $36,000 alone, just in rent !!!
But they'll still vote for, and embrace, a screwball Communist who pretends to be a Socialist but is really just yet another hack corrupt politician who'se net worth will increase to several millions of dollars within the next 6 months ..... Leftie voters never learn.
“You will own nothing. And you will be happy.”
Probably a lot of theft and damage going on...

“Many New Yorkers live in 400sqft apartments.”
Just thinking about that makes me claustrophobic. A quilting frame wouldn’t fit into that space. 1800 sq. ft. would too small for me — until they haul me off to a senior living facility.
Of course, they could OWN a decent bike for $750.00 or so. But, it would get stolen within a week unless it was never ridden:
Ditto for San Francisco - there are Lyft bikes everywhere for rent.
One of our bikes was in the shop so my son had to rent a Lyft bike for use twice - cost = $70. And these were for short rides, not all day use.
Theft and damage. We had red bikes and scooters for a while and now they just have scooters. The red bikes were taken to the homeless camps and dismantled. They were ridden around by homeless people with makeshift trailers. They were left in the streets or thrown in the river. No wonder they didn’t make any money. Now they are gone. The scooters are still around as they are more durable but there are far fewer of them. When I contemplate the idea of renting bicycles I think of what Jesus said about pearls and swine. Air b n b the same thing. We live among swine.
Sounds like the lies I just got from the new property manager at my shop. “Due to increased costs of building maintenance “ they raised the rent 40% via “fee” that was never there. Since they took over they have not done any work, my roof still leaks, and the parking lot still floods when it rains because the sump pump stopped working years ago. I hate liars. Just say you raise the cost because you want more money. Don’t write some BS sob story filled with lies.
When I lived in Europe they tried having those rental scooters in the city squares. When I stayed in Wroclaw Poland for a while there were so many tourists that tore up the town square, crashed in to cars, and crashed in to tourists, the locals took every one of them and tossed them in the canal. I don’t know if they ever tried again.
Probably to cover the funeral costs of their blown up and run over customers.
First hit is free, and then they start raising the prices until they hit market resistance, or a competitor enters the market. Then you either whack the competitor or lower prices to compete until one of you goes broke.
Glad to see the international banksters and dupolists are learning from drug dealers how to turn a profit.
Bad choices have consequences.
It was a political project from the beginning, to get people out of cars in Manhattan especially, and as a political project they likely low-balled the subscription prices in the early years to build up ridership. Bicycle riding in Manhattan is now ubiquitous. Maybe now subscription costs are trying to capture some of financial losses from the early years.
