New York Magazine Already Fearing Mamdani Could Flop as Mayor

The doubts about New York City Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani are already creeping in at the Intelligencer section of New York magazine. In fact those nagging doubts about Mamdani are more than just creeping. As the realization sets in that their hero Mamdani actually has little to no administrative experience, very noticeable flop sweat began streaming in the form of this story on Monday by David Freedlander, "The Making of Mayor Mamdani."

Before you even read the body of the article you can detect the first drippings of the flop sweat in the subtitle: "He is a brilliant political talent with dizzying ambitions to change the city. Is he ready for the actual job, though?"

The story itself is quite lengthy as a result of Freedlander seemingly reassuring both himself and the New York readers that Mamdani will be able to govern as mayor despite the many gnawing doubts presented. The first such example came during Mamdani's trip to Puerto Rico with much of the city's political class:

It's like Bill McKay from "The Candidate." "What do we do now?"

Has he ever had an actual job? Starting off as mayor of America’s largest city as your first real job seems bold.

With untold amounts of Middle East money he could be wildly successful.

He doesn't know his place, and needs to be shown his place, and then put in his place.

He's off to a great start, choosing a paramedic to run the fire department and not somebody who's been through this:

Firefighter Certification: Complete a municipal or state firefighter academy (NFPA standards often apply).

Experience: Progress through ranks (Firefighter, Lt., Captain) over many years, gaining supervisory skills.

EMT/Paramedic Certification: Crucial for emergency response and often required for advancement.

Advanced Education & Certifications

College Degree: An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, or similar is highly beneficial, often required.

Fire Officer Certifications: Progress through levels like Fire Officer I, II, etc., covering leadership, admin, and strategy (e.g., NFPA 1021).

Chief Officer Programs: Elite programs like the Executive Fire Officer (EFO) or Chief Fire Officer (CFO) designations offer advanced management training.

Trump sat him down and had a little talk with him. In spite of the public show he will perform, he won’t ruin NYC.

No. We should never see the likes of him again. Fail it down, not up. Bad news for Imamdani is good news for America.

The more I see such decisions, the more I believe that none of the talented fire department personnel wanted to be the token straight competent guy in a rainbow city hall full of perverts and thieves.

The legacy media will continue to provide cover.

They won the election, that was the easy part. Actually governing is not. As you pointed out “what do we do now”

The only way to not destroy NYC is if he rejects every campaign promos he made.
Elections have consequences, we will see

Mandami already failed, the Democrats and NY city residents just don’t know it yet.

He will either keep none of his campaign promises and anger the entire left wing nut population OR he will raise taxes and drive away the 2% that pay 50% or more of tax income. Potentially he could do both!

Egad. I honestly hate to see it even though the other part of me wants to be able to grab them by the scruff of the neck and bury their face in the pile of dog crap they actively enabled Mandami to excrete on the floor.

But like an addict who needs to hit rock-bottom before they can begin recovering, Americans today need to obtain real life experiences in their own lives that unequivocally demonstrate that Islamism is a pox, socialism doesn’t work, and the Democrat party is unable to do anything constructive.

Sigh.

The REAL sobering part is that all of this “cause” in NYC will likely result in “effects” that in normal people would impress those lessons on, but...the Left will work to find any other factor or thing they can blame the situation on, and some significant portion of the population will eagerly latch on to that.

That significant portion of the population that will no doubt fall for the con is the new seed grain for the Left to reconstitute Leftism for their next big push on obtaining power and re-writing the rules.

PT Barnum is right...gullibility is a strong part of human nature.

Yes, he will.

He’s counting on Congress to bail him out.

And since Deep State still controls the Congress, if Deep State wants NYC bailed out, Mandani will get it.

At a minimum I would expect to see significant quality of life issues that affect average folks.

That could be more burglaries, muggings, car break-ins, needles on the street etc.

That could mean degradation in city services like garbage collection, road repair and fire-fighting.
