An Alameda man accused of killing a wild turkey this month is facing felony animal cruelty charges, prosecutors said.
The 38-year-old was arrested on Dec. 17 after the illegal hunting was reported to police and animal control by a witness, the East Bay Times reported.
The Alameda County District Attorney's Office is now seeking justice for the wild bird, which are seen around some Bay Area neighborhoods, though they are not native to California.
Police told the East Bay Times that the man, who hasn't been publicly named, shot the turkey with a 177 caliber BB gun near the 400 block of Pensacola Road — about three-and-a-half miles from where the man lives.
The bird was taken to a veterinarian for a full necropsy before the case was brought to the district attorney's office.
This guy will do more time than the average Bay Area murderer. That is how screwed up California is. Who care what the caliber is if the guy is a good enogh shot to kill the critter. It is not like he shoved a firecracker up a cat’s butt.
Should have told the police that he was starting a new TURKEY SCHOOL for the Somalians and he needed 1 dead for a mascot. He was hoping to make BILLIONS for the poor Somali Community. Then he would have been HAILED as a HERO. Laws are to be IGNORED right?
No shortage of fat in a wild goose. But yeah game is generally pretty lean.
There are just not enough white guys to charge with felonies so you got to make these ridiculous charge. If you only prosecute the real felons you get disparate impact which proves you are racist because all ethnic groups must commit criminal acts at the same rate. This is liberal logic 101.
Well, c’mon man, it’s a one hundred and seventy seven caliber gun!
That’s more than twice as big as a fifty caliber which everyone knows can take down an airliner.
I’m surprised it was even found. Must have been a solid hit to kill it with a single BB.
Good shot killing a turkey with a 177.
Probably would have esten it like a human if karen didn’t get involved.
Now we get to feed him progesterone pumped chicken for 6mo to a year.
“I remember when turkeys were rare in Ga.
Possession of a single Turkey feather would bring a charge from the game and fish Dept.”
When was that? Georgia has had turkey hunting every year.
The bird was taken to a veterinarian for a full necropsy

Should have gone to the kitchen for butchering and cooking.
Clownifornia.
Know your craycraydiction.
Where I live:
Pheasants gone
Quail gone
Ducks - not gone but less and less
Geese - many many
Turkeys - many
Coyotes - many - increasing
That’s what I thought. It’s like shooting deer with a 22 LR.
Wild turkey is very good, much better than what you get from the store.
It is absolutely insane that he would be charged with a felony.
I have a .177 air rifle that could kill a hog.
Wild Turkey would be like a big Pheasant.
A little gamey, and dry.
How is it they refuse to release the name of an individual charged with a felony?
Public record, bitches
The new ones are pretty powerful. A single pump to cock it.

I could open a window for an easy head shot with a .177 @ 1000fps.
Felony? This is absolutely crazy.
Also, if it’s dead, the shot got it. It’s not cruelty.
