A 77-year-old gunman opened fire at an Idaho sheriff’s office — injuring three people before he was killed in a standoff with police, according to authorities.
The incident unfolded around 2:30 p.m. on Friday when shooter John Drake opened fire outside of the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office in Wallace, Shoshone County Sheriff William Eddy announced at a press conference.
Drake shot through the windshield of a pickup truck on the street near the sheriff’s office, striking two women in the leg. An officer was also wounded in the gunfire, Eddy said.
The officer was nicked in the ear by flying glass from the shooting, per CNN.
All three of the victims were confirmed to have only minor injuries.
Drake then entered the lobby of the sheriff’s office and continued firing before barricading himself inside the building, according to Shoshone News Press.
The shooting prompted a massive law enforcement response, with multiple agencies, including a SWAT team, swarming the sheriff’s office.
Drake was shot and killed following a standoff with police. He was pronounced dead at 4:15 p.m., Eddy added.
