A Russian missile strike on port infrastructure in Odesa in southern Ukraine killed eight people and wounded 27, Ukraine’s emergency service said Saturday, as a a Kremlin envoy was set to travel to Florida for talks on a U.S.-proposed plan to end the nearly four-year war,
The discussions are part of the Trump administration's monthslong push for peace that also included meetings with Ukrainian and European officials in Berlin earlier this week. Ukraine's chief negotiator said late Friday that his delegation had completed separate meetings in the U.S. with American and European partners.
Meanwhile, European Union leaders agreed on Friday to provide a massive interest-free loan to Ukraine to meet its military and economic needs for the next two years.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said much will depend on the U.S. posture after discussions with the Russians.
Speaking at a press conference in Kyiv with Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, Zelenskyy said that "the key question remains how the United States responds after consultations with the Russians. At this point, I honestly don’t know, but I will know later today."
Some of those wounded in Odesa were on a bus at the center of the strike late Friday, the emergency service said in a Telegram post. Trucks caught fire in the parking lot and cars were also damaged.
The port was struck with ballistic missiles, said Oleh Kiper, the head of the Odesa region.
Moscow did not immediately acknowledge reports of the attack. The Russian Defense Ministry said Saturday that over the previous day, it had struck unspecified "transport and storage infrastructure used by the Ukrainian armed forces," along with energy facilities and those supplying Kyiv's war effort.

It has become clear that Russia is going to be able to take as much of Ukraine as they want.
That 'clarity' of yours must be thru a darkened glass window.
For almost 4 years, Russia has been taking as much territory as they wanted, and still holding on to the same 20% they originally took because Ukraine was unprepared. Ukraine is not prepared to handle anything Russia throws their way. In fact, Ukraine is slowly taking back territory from the occupiers, even if just a kilometer or a village at a time.

Adorno, I love you but your information is way off in my opinion. You are listening to liars trying to keep the money flowing. If they hadn’t stolen so much of it, Ukraine would be better off but would still lose. 144 million against 19 million, and all the “helpers” are out of weapons, guns and money. Ukraine can’t even try a counteroffensive, the recent attempt failed to go anywhere.
We are in the worst part of every war, the needless death and destruction after the outcome is obvious. I hate that.

Our country has been infiltrated. It’s the way the enemy works.
“For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence—on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations.”

” They are running out of barrels, which wear out after an average of 100 shots, which means quickly, like days.”
If they are burning up barrels in 100 rounds, they are almost firing until the barrels turn red.
Even the old Soviet barrels firing 3 per minute for bursts and no more than 12 per hour would last 1,500 rounds.

The EU has no response To Russia other than a promise of money to Ukraine.
The EU/NATO is what's kept Ukraine in the fight. Most of the weapons Ukraine has, including the jet-fighters, came from the NATO countries. And tanks and artillery and defensive missiles and a lot more, came from Europe.
Russia will run out of weapons before Europe does. And Russian troops are only good for becoming casualties, now at around 1.5 million casualties. The territory they still hold came from the surprise invasion in 2022, when Ukraine was unprepared for war. Ukraine is now the biggest and best military force in all of Europe. Not good news for Russia or you Putinias.

The boldest liars are the ones that are completely ignorant of the truth.
Self destructive feelings require that YOU go see a shrink. Maybe Putin can help pay for the consultations.

Just curious, why would you choose “adorno” as screen name?
I don't hide who I am behind a screen name. I was born 'Adorno'. Hope that's not too hard for you to understand.
I could have chosen Trump or Staling or Hitler or Christ, but I wasn't born related to any of them, just as I was not born related to that adorno you want to accuse me of being.
The only well known Adorno was Theodor Adorno, a crypto communist infiltrator from the Franfurt school.
Well, now you know a completely different Adorno, and one that's completely the opposite of that Adorno you are confused about.
BTW, it sounds like YOU studied that adorno, and you know more about him than I would have ever cared to know. YOU sound very invested in learning as much as you can about communists. I'm not any of that.
BTW, there are other communists that you might be interested in learning about: Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Castro, Chavez, Maduro, Kim Jung. Look up all of your communist heroes. You won't find any of that in my direction.
BTW, did you know that ALL the people with the name of Washington also believe that they're a founding father or related to that founding father? (Think about that, doofus).

Yesterday was the Direct Line, an annual Q&A of Russia with Putin. It lasted over 4 hours.
Any AI can provide you an array of text. Some of the matters addressed were light hearted (Do you believe in love at first sight, and later, are you in love now). As well as more serious matters, like Tajikistan migration. Western media was present and was offered the chance to ask questions.
The country’s populace submitted online questions which a central AI evaluated to compute subject frequency and present questions to Putin that were representative of the country’s interest.
It is common for these Direct Line events to have media from various locales dress up in their region’s traditional costumes in order to attract attention and get a question accepted. One such asked if the comet currently near Earth was a UFO and informed Putin that his region was prepared to offer hospitality to any such visitors.

... I was born 'Adorno'....Outstanding! Always come the personal attacks or digs. It's tiresome.
And 'Triple A best' is kind of conceited, truth be told in the vein brought up.

I love you but your information is way off in my opinion.
You are one of the least infuriating posters on FR.
But, I disagree with you, ardently.
You can have an opinion, but it's an uninformed opinion.
How the heck do you think Ukraine has survived almost 4 years after the initial invasion by Russia?
Ukraine has been battling Russia to a standstill, all with a much lower military force. Why is that? If numerical superiority is what wins wars, why is Russia stuck in a quagmire?
Russia is still struggling to continue occupying the same original 20% of Ukraine they took at the beginning of the war. If they were making any progress, they would be at 21% or higher. They are NOT.
Progress on a treadmill is no progress at all. You can't conquer any more land on a treadmill.
Since 2022, the most progress Russia made was a bit over 1% more than they ended up with after the initial invasion; that was from 19% to 20%. And that progress was at the expense of more than a million casualties to Russia.
Think again, because it's YOU that has a huge misunderstanding about how things are going. Russia is not winning, and Ukraine is not winning. But if making progress is measured with territorial gains, Russia is in no way winning.

The Soviet Union was never Russian.
The Soviet Union is the same as the Russian Federation. Different name, same devil. The only difference is that, the Soviet Union was composed of more republics.

Putin is doing it wrong. He should have bribed the politicians in Kyiv including Zelensky. Eventually, Ukraine would have turned into another Belarus.

Why did Russia support us in our Revolution, and in our civil war?
Completely irrelevant.
The Russia of the last 80 years bears no resemblance to the Russia of ancient history, though even then, it wasn't that friendly towards its neighbors.
Why did the Soviet Union imprison the East Germans/East Berlin, and a host of other Soviet republics?

"Just curious, why would you choose “adorno” as screen name? The only well known Adorno was Theodor Adorno, a crypto communist infiltrator from the Franfurt school."Did someone just say, "Theodor Adorno? Did you not know that Theodor Adorno lives on FR and has morphed from being a founding member of the Frankfurt School to one of FR's most nutty and strident Zeepers? I converse with him on these pages all the time.
Come to think of it, it's been a while. My Dearest Theodor, how have you been post-zot, my boy! Max (Horkheimer), Jacques (Derrida) and Michel (Foucault) recently had an epic, foot-long Frankfurt eating contest using your "techniques." They're looking forward to seeing you next week at Columbia's BoomBoom Room when you'll read you latest, sure-to-be groundbreaking paper, "A Critical Theory Of Donuts, Capitalistic Urges and the Hegemony Of Foot-Long Franfurts In a Hermenuetic Dialogue Of the Twelve Tone System Of Dishwashing"
See you then, my Dearest Thoedor!

There is no route to Odessa that doesn’t involve crossing wide, deep water. As long as there is a viable Ukrainian force on the other side, Russia won’t even try.
So, you don't expect a Russian ground assault on Odessa?
YOu don't sound like the many other cheerleaders for Russia after the missile attacks on Odessa.
At least you dont sound as radical as some other Putinias.
