Russian Missile Strike on Odesa Kills 8
Newsmax ^ | December 20, 2025

A Russian missile strike on port infrastructure in Odesa in southern Ukraine killed eight people and wounded 27, Ukraine’s emergency service said Saturday, as a a Kremlin envoy was set to travel to Florida for talks on a U.S.-proposed plan to end the nearly four-year war,

The discussions are part of the Trump administration's monthslong push for peace that also included meetings with Ukrainian and European officials in Berlin earlier this week. Ukraine's chief negotiator said late Friday that his delegation had completed separate meetings in the U.S. with American and European partners.

Meanwhile, European Union leaders agreed on Friday to provide a massive interest-free loan to Ukraine to meet its military and economic needs for the next two years.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said much will depend on the U.S. posture after discussions with the Russians.

Speaking at a press conference in Kyiv with Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, Zelenskyy said that "the key question remains how the United States responds after consultations with the Russians. At this point, I honestly don’t know, but I will know later today."

Some of those wounded in Odesa were on a bus at the center of the strike late Friday, the emergency service said in a Telegram post. Trucks caught fire in the parking lot and cars were also damaged.

The port was struck with ballistic missiles, said Oleh Kiper, the head of the Odesa region.

Moscow did not immediately acknowledge reports of the attack. The Russian Defense Ministry said Saturday that over the previous day, it had struck unspecified "transport and storage infrastructure used by the Ukrainian armed forces," along with energy facilities and those supplying Kyiv's war effort.

Adorno’s, mine, and the vast majority of Freepers are anti-GINSCA* .

However, great idea, let’s have a poll !

Who is supporting the GINSCA ? Yes? No?

I vote NO, opposing the GINSCA.

*GINSCA = Globalist-Islamo-NeoSoviet-Commie-Alliance
(IRAN, Russia, North Korea, China)

---- "However, great idea, let’s have a poll !"

A delightful notion. But only two alternatives makes your gambit a push poll at best.

Here's a view: NOT Russia, NOT China, NOT Iran, NOT North Korea, NOT Globalist-Islamo-NeoSoviet-Commies, and, adding to the knotty gambit, also NOT Ukraine, NOT the EU and especially not the EU Commission. In sum, FOR these United States above all other nations.

Because ---

Details at a more granular level....

I vote FOR zero foreign aid. Aggressive work to work down the national debt. Aggressive campaigning against Democrats. America first. Why?

$38.5 trillion in growing national debt, indebted European nations expecting we validate their geopolitical policies, the greening of NATO and its outreach to new alliances in the Pacific-Asia area which is expensive, and the same message, over and over. Money. More money. Debt. More debt.

I vote FOR no more debt.

Hallelujah! I applaud your wisdom.
We 100% agree.
I also support zero foreign aid.

Thus, let’s continue what Trump is doing right now. It’s the only thing I am push for here on FR:

No US foreign Aid.
Massive US weapons sales to Taiwan.
Massive US weapons sales to the EU / Ukraine.

It’s good for America’s economy.
And it weakens America’s most extreme traditional enemies.

We agree.

-- "We agree."

Not quite. While you think there can be "massive" weapons sales, I suspect that the adjective is optimistic. Some say sell weapons and re-order, while my view is sell only AFTER the readiness has been fully achieved, i.e. sell overage above inventory. Not 'go without until a new delivery.'

As to readiness:

"F-35 aircraft comprise a growing portion of DOD's aviation fleet. DOD currently has 660 F-35s, and plans to procure about 2,500 in total. DOD's projected costs to sustain the F-35 fleet keep increasing —from $1.1 trillion in 2018 to $1.58 trillion in 2023. The F-35's ability to perform its mission has also trended downward between FY 2019 and FY 2023. DOD faces costly maintenance issues for the F-35, such as delays setting up military service depots—facilities to complete the most complex repairs—and inadequate equipment to keep aircraft operational. DOD intends to transition more maintenance responsibilities from contractors to the government, but it doesn't have a plan to achieve this goal."

"Despite spending billions of dollars annually, the Air Force and Navy have struggled for years to maintain their aircraft due to the age of their fleets, a lack of parts, maintenance delays, and other problems. Of particular concern is that neither service has completed required 'sustainment reviews'—a critical tool to assess performance and help increase readiness throughout an aircraft's life cycle. " [ more ]

Source: Military Readiness GAO., n.d.

"The issue surfaced during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on Thursday, where members questioned the Air Force's chief-of-staff nominee about the fifth-generation jet's declining performance metrics. According to recent Government Accountability Office (GAO) reports, the F-35A’s mission-capable rates have fallen between 71% and 51% from 2019 to 2023, while sustainment costs continue to soar. Lockheed Martin, the aircraft's manufacturer, has faced criticism for late deliveries and missing upgrades. The 2026 defense budget under congressional review includes funding for 47 additional F-35s—24 of which are slated for the Air Force.

"Technically, the F-35A’s downtime often stems from supply-chain bottlenecks, with jets grounded while waiting for replacement parts to arrive. This delay reduces available aircraft for training and missions, limiting the Air Force's ability to project airpower effectively."

There's lots of work to do towards increased readiness all the while finding cost cutting in other areas.

Hummm, I didn't see the I vote FOR no more debt. in YOUR agreement, nor did I see

Massive US weapons sales to Taiwan ... or

Massive US weapons sales to the EU / Ukraine

in Worldtraveler once upon a time's comments.

Thus your final "We agree." in the last line of your comment is equivalent to Rooters or The Associated Presstitues selective reporting of the truth, and is Misdirection.

Shame on you.

Since you mention the F-35, I don’t think it’s a good aircraft for Europe.

The French Rafale and the Swedish JAS 39 Gripen are far better suited for European needs. They are easier to maintain, significantly less expensive to operate, and their supply chains are based in Europe. Both aircraft excel in maneuverability compared to the F-35, especially in close-range combat.

In a dogfight, the F-35 would struggle against either of these jets.

The F-35 is clearly superior in terms of stealth. However, Europe does not really need a stealth-first strike aircraft. Stealth is most useful for launching surprise attacks and penetrating enemy airspace early in a conflict. It would be ideal for a first strike on a country like Venezuela, for example.

Since Europe has no intention of attacking Russia and is focused on defense against potential Russian aggression, it makes more sense to rely on versatile, multi-role fighters like the Rafale and the JAS 39 Gripen. They are better adapted to defensive operations and, quite simply, they fly better.

Thus, Europe should continue to buy a lot of other stuff from America, but not the F-35.

“Hummm, I didn’t see the I vote FOR no more debt. in YOUR agreement, nor did I see...”.

That’s because no sane person votes for more debt. Pointing that out is like announcing that humans require oxygen. Technically true. Entirely useless to point out such an obvious thing.

When I mentioned massive US weapons sales to Taiwan and to the EU/Ukraine, it wasn’t random trivia. It was the obvious connection you skipped. Those sales generate revenue. Revenue reduces deficits. Reduced deficits slow debt growth. This is basic economics!

Talking about diminishing the nation’s debt, arms exports are one of the key areas where the US actually brings in large-scale money instead of lighting it on fire domestically.

So yes, that’s why I mentioned it.

I’m surprised I have to explain that to you.

Trump is not remaining neutral. He’s been calling out the globalists since 2015.

The globalists are the UN, the EU, NATO, Zelensky and other low IQ actors.

You can measure most things by how the left responds to them.

What do your instincts tell you about why the left (think Clintons) loved Russia when it was known as the Soviet Union, but ever since Russia got rid of the Soviets, the left hates Russia.

Before 1989: the left loved Russia

After 1989: the left hates Russia

Everything has been infiltrated. The Kremlin, the White House, our intelligence agencies, their intelligence agencies, our military, their military. And the media, and industry, an so on.

It’s a big mess.

But they can’t infiltrate the conscience of God-fearing people.

All of those countries have been infiltrated. For the most part, you shouldn’t think of them as sovereign entities.

As for globalists, they’re all on the same side because they have the same agenda.

Any leader they oppose is a nationalist.

Putin and the globalists (NATO, the EU) are at war with each other.
