I was not a big fan in the sense that I don't follow racing all that much, but, Greg Biffle was a good guy. The below vid about his help to many people after Helene had just been posted:

Incredibly ironic title... :-(
Prayers for the rest of his family, friends, fans, and co-workers. Rest In Peace, Sir!

I can’t find any information as to how the plane crashed. Whether he was taking off or landing or what so if anyone has any information, I would appreciate it.

Early reports are saying after takeoff the aircraft experienced engine problems, attempting to return to the airport the plane crashed.

If you watch the news report linked you will get your answer.

I heard that he took off and was in the air for about 26 minutes doing a lot of circles. Then he came back and tried to land when the crash occurred.

The plane was based in Statesville if I remember right, so he would probably be departing (supposedly to Sarasota to do something with Youtuber Cleetus McFarland) but I guess they were returning to the field and crashed on landing.

Anything that is stated now is pure speculation. You will have to wait for the NTSB report to know the actual cause of the crash.

Something happened after takeoff and they were trying to return to the airport, crashed short of the runway, and slid into the airfield. The flight was only 4 minutes long. RIP.

Putting together reports from Twitter: They took off normally, tried to get into their flight path, 180 turn back to airport, oddly did not attempt direct approach from the west after the 180, but instead flew the length of the airport to do a hard figure-8 to come back at the runway from the east (wtf), and obviously ran low on speed+altitude; then on approach at a near-impossible angle, dropped across a golf course short of the runway; skid-plowed across a two-lane road (there is video of the just-after on Twitter), through the airport fence and then finally where the jet came to a stop in the middle of the airport.
Ceilings were terrible, yet feels like pilot error.
