Now you will need to have access to multiple platforms (TNT/TRU; HBO MAX and ESPN in order to watch all the playoff games with the exception of the first two First Round games (Alabama at (8) Oklahoma and 10) Miami at (7) Texas A&M) which will air on ESPN/ABC.
ESPN (No ABC) has the exclusive rights to everything from the Quarter Finals thru the Championship.
There is usually somebody live streaming “meaningful” games on TikTok.
LOL- you’re right- the practices are at their school- never mind the fact bowl games except for the CFP are more localized (neither Washington nor Boise traveled “a couple of thousand miles” for tonights bowl game)....
But hey- i’m sure you know better than the college coaches...
Memories, the bowl experience in general, building camaraderie, talk to players that have been there. Love is a non-sequitur in this day and age. What about the 2nd string DT or the bach-up QB that will get plenty of reps. Stupid as heck to take your ball and whine and cry because you did not beat Miami. Think of the opportunities to better the team that you missed.
The downsides is that many NFL or pro caliber players could get injured playing a meaningless game. The scouts already got the players scoped out.
Another downside is the.player may reinjure themselves from an injury that was recovering.
Players only can get beat up so much before their body crumps. Save the body for pro day or combine....or the pros...
( Get a decent salary in return for long term health issues)
“Pull the money and shift it to some other academically gifted student that has financial hardships.”
In other words you favor socialism....football programs often bring in $100 million plus in revenue for a university each season but screw the players responsible for the glut in cash, some other student that has financial hardship should get the $$$$....
This is similar to what the left whines about obamacare tax subsidies...
Spoiled brats, can’t handle it. Our lady can’t be seen mingling with the peasants.
Too many bowls ?...don’t watch. They’re fun civic events.
Lots of benefits for team, program, and players
All the bowls have a title sponsor. Some of the lower-level bowls are just named after the sponsor. They would have been fine playing for an opportunity to go to the Goodyear Bowl.
Presumably, they could have scored and invite to one of the better, non-playoff bowls, like the Valero Alamo Bowl (ended up USC vs. TCU) or the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl (Michigan vs Texas). Put ND against any of those and it would be a good game, whatever the title.
Bump. Not only did they lose to Miami, but Miami did much better than ND against teams both played in common except for one - Syracuse I believe.
I haven't et seen such entitled sore losers. Read a story today about them - still whiining.
I will say that the college rating system can be very convoluted, but Miami still, objectively, had a better year and is the better team.
They made the decision that it wasn’t worth it, and apparently their fans agree with it. So it’s done deal, no point in what anyone else thinks. Period.
Wrong. Try again. TX A&M is wrong as well.
Absolutely loved those days....Cotton Bowl on CBS, Rose & Fiesta Bowl on NBC, three bowl games on ABC capped off with the Sugar Bowl- great memories...
...and mistresses on the side...maybe even honey pots for the players...stop thinking money based football is purely based on competition and rivalry...
Would like to see a bowl game with the two worst teams....or a bowl that pits the team with the best available offense against the team with the best available defense.
Overall...I don’t care anymore.
A ton of money and showcasing potential pros
We're talking about a few guys on the very best teams, maybe one on the middle-of-the-pack teams. It's normally the projected 1st and 2nd round guys that sit. With the 12-team playoff, a lot of the guys who would sit are now playing.
The teams that really have issues are the ones whose coaches took better jobs (and often have players that know they want to follow.) There were a couple of teams in that situation who just couldn't safely field a team. That's not ND.
Heck, with the transfer portal, who cares about extra practices and an extra game. Most teams nowdays have at least 25 portal transfers- so the team you finish with does not bear the same resemblance to what you start with next year anyway!
There are at least ten NCAA programs that have declined bowl bids this year. I expect half these minor bowls to be gone in a few years. Are these coaches morons who are passing up an opportunity to run practices with their young players?
I remember when we had three channels - two ABC and one CBS. Then one of the ABC stations switched to CBS - big help that was. We also only had B&W TV until about '79 or '80, when we finally got cable.
I also remember getting a knee replaced in Dec 2019, and I lived on ESPN, pain pills, and the traction/torture machine that had me use. (My teams, when they go to bowls at all, go to crappy ones, so I like crappy bowl games. I have had two kids graduate from OU and a third is still there, so I now have a bit of a rooting interest in some good bowl games, too.)
name them....
