He was a very influential man. Not just for the Jews, but also for the Babylonians and Persians.

Thus as you say, we learn from Peter and John

Peter in 1Peter 1:19-20
But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

And John in Revelation 13:8
And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

I should probably add the scripture leading up to Rev 13:8 so that it is given in proper context. Otherwise it sounds off.

4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
