He grew up on a farm in Indiana, the son of a factory worker and eldest of five children. He studied at Liberty, a Christian university founded by the conservative pastor and televangelist Jerry Falwell, and recalls wearing a T-shirt expressing opposition to the Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.
Two decades later, Justin Douglas is running for the US Congress – as a Democrat.
He is among about white 30 Christian clergy – pastors, seminary students and other faith leaders – known to be potential Democratic candidates in next year’s midterm elections, including a dozen who are already in the race.
In Arkansas, Robb Ryerse, a Christian pastor and former Republican, is mounting a challenge to Representative Steve Womack, adopting the slogan “Faith, Family & Freedom” – rhetoric more commonly found in Republican campaign literature.
Ryerse, 50, said: “I joke sometimes that the two people who have changed my life more than any others are Jesus and Donald Trump, for very different reasons. Donald Trump is absolutely inconsistent with Christian principles of love and compassion, justice, looking out for the poor, meeting the needs of the marginalised.
James Talarico, a Texas state representative and a 36-year-old part-time seminary student who has amassed a sizable social media following – has become an unlikely standard-bearer in the Democrats’ 2026 Senate primary.
In a series of social media posts, he deploys scripture to champion the poor and vulnerable while castigating Republicans for what he casts as their drift towards Christian nationalism and corporate interests.
“Instead of posting the Ten Commandments in every classroom, why don’t they post, ‘Money is the root of all evil’ in every boardroom?”

Talarico could do well with the Italian-American Presbyterian vote.
That’s exactly the point. I despise these types more than I ever will the dems.
AKA as GOPe, RINOs, uniparty, deep state, swamp dwellers, elites, back stabbers, establishment, surrender monkeys, turncoats, maoists, assistant democrats, traitors, liars, debt junkies, crooks, thieves, scumbags, republicrats, democrat lite...the list goes on.
I fixed the headine.
“Donald Trump is absolutely inconsistent with Christian principles of love and compassion, justice, looking out for the poor, meeting the needs of the marginalised.“
That’s YOUR job, shit for brains, not the president’s.
And your views on baby murder?
The issue too now is liberalism is rampant in churches. Locally here, many Southern Baptist churches have aligned with liberal Baptists (Cooperative Baptist Fellowship) by using Sunday School or choral music from the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship institution Mercer University. Others are knee-deep into singing material from Big Entertainment that despises all Biblical doctrine and theology.
lol...good luck with his tactic. Trump has inconsistent Christian values says the party that kill children as a sacrament and worship demonic principals and entities.
I would expect that a Harvard grad and seminarian could quote 1 Timothy 6:10 correctly.
Typical liberal seminary student, misquoting Scripture. The phrase is “the LOVE of money is the root of all manner of evil”. Two very different things.
So, is this the new Soros initiative, the way he bankrolled state Secretaries of State (who count the votes) and Attorneys General (who release criminals)?
Re: abortion. This is the creepy tactic Talarico uses to twist the Scriptures:

Well his son backed a Muslim in NYC…to start.
NOT ‘CLERGY’ MATERIAL.
ABOUT JAMES TALARICO
Who is James Talarico? He’s a former middle school teacher turned lawmaker. He won his first seat in the Texas House of Representatives in 2018, representing District 50 in Williamson County. From the start, Talarico promised to lead with empathy. At just 29, he became the youngest member of the Legislature, but his thoughtful and steady approach earned him respect across party lines.
In office, he’s prioritized public education, access to mental health care, and reproductive freedom. But it’s his unwavering allyship to the LGBTQIA+ community that sets him apart. In 2021, Talarico urged his colleagues to vote down a wave of anti-trans bills targeting youth, according to CBS Austin.
Talarico isn’t an ally in name only. He meets directly with LGBTQIA+ constituents, listens to their concerns, and incorporates their needs into policy.
It’s a fake, and a stupid one at that. Should see its Boeing gripes, dumber than the pilots that crashed.
Yes unfortunately the moral weakness of TX GOP candidates has left door wide open for this wolf in…not even sheep’s clothing, more like goat’s. 😖
The social gospel is no gospel at all. Just more msn centered crap.
“”Two decades later, Justin Douglas is running for the US Congress – as a Democrat.””

While... I don’t believe for a minute that Douglas is a Christian... I am grateful that he isn’t (still) running as a RINO Republican. We already have too many of those ‘fake’ GOPers in the party.
That said, this new “candidates of faith” bit with the rat party is just another gimmick they’re going to try to use to get votes from Independents and other in their zeal to fool We, the People. They’ve always got to have a gimmick of some kind. They actually think that religion is going to work “for” them. It’s hilarious.
To be clear I would prefer more Republicans who…while policy wise are pro-life and all that, didn’t wear religion on their sleeve. That can be a trap.
Exactly.
It goes deeper than just the love of money; it is actually talking about having a covetous spirit which is a root of many evils; the book of James further amplifies this principle
The church is now a woman dominated institution. Without it we would not be civilized.
You have it backwards. We became civilized when the Church was lead by men. When women took over, their toxic compassion for everything has crushed society and morals.
