6-7…
8-9-10-OMG what comes next?
Obama was in the right place at the right time. 2008 was the start of a financial crisis where the Republicans were blamed. He could have beaten anyone.
He also faced two pretty weak candidates, McCain and Willard. Interestingly, Obama’s re-election was the first one in modern history where his margin of victory was SMALLER than his initial election.
Someone worked 6 days. And on the seventh, rested.
I’m guessing an AI slang term since kids today can’t think of anything on their own.
I thought it sounded familiar:
from AI
When you’re “at sixes and sevens,” you’re in a state of confusion, disorder, or disarray, feeling disorganized, overwhelmed, or in disagreement, like when things are chaotic and you don’t know what to do next. It’s an idiom often used for messy situations or disagreements, stemming from medieval dice games or livery company squabbles over precedence.
Common Slang Terms
Carnival slang (sometimes called “carny talk” or “kinker talk” in the circus context) has a rich vocabulary, much of which revolves around their nomadic lifestyle, specific jobs, and interactions with customers, often referred to as “marks” or “rubes”.
Here are some common terms used by carnival operators:
Agent/Jointee/Jointy: A person who operates a game booth (”joint”).
Alibi Store: A rigged game where the operator has a ready explanation (”alibi”) for why the customer didn’t win (e.g., “you threw the ball too fast”), always offering another chance for a fee.
Bally: To attract a crowd using a loud, exciting commotion or sales pitch in front of a show or game.
Butcher: A worker who walks through the crowd selling food and drinks.
First of May: A novice worker or performer in their first season.
Flattie: A worker who operates a shady or rigged game.
Gaff: The secret method or rigging used to cheat players at a game.
Gilly: An outsider, someone not connected with the carnival or circus.
Grab Joint: A food concession stand.
Hey, Rube!: Historically, an alarm or call for help, signaling a fight between carnival workers and townspeople.
Juice: Bribes paid to local police or officials to allow certain operations to run smoothly.
Jump: The physical move to the next town or location on the carnival’s route.
Kayfabe: Inside information about the business not meant for the public, originally a pro wrestling term.
Mark/Rube/Chump: A customer or a gullible person, especially one targeted to be conned.
Operator: Specifically, one who runs the amusement rides.
Showman: Often refers to the carnival owner or a prominent figure within the business, distinct from general workers.
Towner/Native: A local resident of the town the carnival is visiting.
Worker: A large, attractive display prize (like an oversized balloon animal) used by concession men to entice customers, which is much larger than the actual, small prize the customer receives.
The X: An exclusive right to operate a certain type of game or concession on a specific area of the lot, preventing competition.
The Term “Carny” Itself
The term “carny” is generally considered informal shorthand for someone who works in the industry, and many workers use it themselves with pride to describe their unique lifestyle and profession. While some people associate the term with negative stereotypes (such as being transient or running rigged games), it is not typically considered an ethnic slur in North America, unlike some equivalent terms in other countries.
LOL....sort of...!!!
‘L-7’ a square…an adult.
He also faced two pretty weak candidates, McCain and Willard. Interestingly, Obama’s re-election was the first one in modern history where his margin of victory was SMALLER than his initial election.
Not only that, America was ready to turn the page on our history.
Obama represented that potential and promise.
It turned out that he was a Marxist.
We didn't sign up for that.
