EU Fines Musk $140 Million for Refusing To Censor X

The EU has slapped Elon Musk with a $140 million fine for refusing to censor content on his social-media platform X, in contravention of the bloc’s controversial Digital Services Act (DSA).

The hefty fine, announced by Bloomberg, is the first to be issued under the 2023 law, with EU lawmakers promising further investigations and fines for internet companies that refuse to comply with its rules.

Musk is accused of “misleading” users and failing to provide the EU with access to user data.

Breitbart reports, “According to the Commission’s statement, X was found to have misled users with its paid-for blue checkmark verification symbol, failed to provide researchers with access to data, and did not properly set up an advertising repository. The fine, while lower than expected, is still set to escalate tensions between the EU and the White House over free speech and tech regulation.”

Vice President JD Vance took to X to slam the EU for its actions, which he described as “garbage.”

“Rumors swirling that the EU commission will fine X hundreds of millions of dollars for not engaging in censorship. The EU should be supporting free speech not attacking American companies over garbage.”

Under the DSA, the EU can impose fines of as much as six percent of an online platform’s annual global revenue for failing to address what it deems to be illegal content, “disinformation,” or transparency issues.

Several other major US tech firms are also being investigated under the DSA, including Apple, Google, and Meta.

In recent months, the EU has handed out substantial fines against Apple and Meta under its digital antitrust rules and against Google and Apple under standard competition law.

Time to start bombing Brussels.

Consider it payback for King Leopold and The Congo.

Not true. Islam was one of the reasons they collapsed.

Unless you mean somehow Russia's war in Afghanistan, otherwise its a nonsense comment.

We should add a EU penalty tariff for edicts that hurt America...

You read things like this, and the EU trying to impose the DSA on Americans, or attempts to ban political parties in France and Germany, or England forcing digital IDs and surveillance cameras everywhere, or counties across Europe supporting Islamists over the native populations....

Remind me again why the push to get the US embroiled in a Eastern European conflict between two corrupt countries, spending our blood and treasure defending the regimes mentioned in the first paragraph?

Our forefathers fought a revolution to be free of that s**t, not to mention sending men and equipment to the same part of the world twice in the 20th century presumably to keep those people free.

Clearly you don’t know history and the fall of the soviet union. Look up the Chechen Islam movement and why they are autonomous today even though part of Russia.

The Chechen Wars were fought after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The unelected European creepozoids can go pound sand.

Several European entities, including the European Space Agency (ESA) and national agencies from countries like France, Italy, Germany, and the EU, have contracted SpaceX (Falcon 9 & Falcon Heavy) for launches, with missions for Euclid (ESA), Hera (ESA), Galileo satellites (EU), and Eumetsat satellites.

The EU has dumped billions into the ESA Arianne rocket. It is not reusable.

Next time they come begging SpaceX to launch something, he should charge them $140 million PER MINUTE.

X is gaslighting algorithm central.

EU really needs some serious gaslighting.

No wonder they want it censored.

Too much freedom going on.

No need to be smug.

So your assertion is that the Chechens caused the overthrow of the Soviet system? Or was it some other Islamist group / Muslim enclave? I don't recall Gorbachev's glasnost and perestroika mentioning Islam.

When one "looks up" the Chechen Wars, it seems they occurred AFTER the Soviet Union fell and the Soviet Empire disintegrated. Seems more likely a result of a post-Soviet power vacuum, but am happy to listen to your explanation

Also, exactly how did Putin, who also came along after the collapse of the Soviet Union, somehow get the Chechens to behave?

Please clarify.

So shut X off in the EU. No one there can use it for any reason.

Then watch them howl.

The point is Soviets knew they had an Islam issue which led to giving up autonomy to regions which led to revolt. They didn’t give “freedom” to areas because they got nice. They did it because they saw a revolt coming.
