House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) has subpoenaed former special counsel Jack Smith to appear under oath before the committee on Dec. 17, according to the letter accompanying the request.
“Due to your service as Special Counsel, the Committee believes that you possess information that is vital to its oversight of this matter,” Jordan writes in the letter.
Rep. Jim Jordan

Jack Smith Subpoenaed.
The Judiciary Committee inquiry into the activities of the Office of Special Counsel seeks to depose Smith as part of its investigation into Smith’s “Arctic Frost” probe which targeted Trump over Biden administration accusations regarding classified documents and election interference.
The deposition will take place behind closed doors and will also examine how Smith’s investigation also targeted hundreds of GOP lawmakers, media outlets and Trump allies as part of its probe.
Fox News reports that Smith had earlier agreed to testify publicly before the House and Senate Judiciary Committees but sources close to Jordan’s request say the deposition format allows for longer, more thorough questioning than the 5 minute intervals observed in a public hearing.
President Trump has called for questioning Smith in public, saying, ““Jack Smith is a bad guy, a sick man. There’s something REALLY wrong with him. I’d rather see him testify PUBLICLY … there’s no way he can answer questions!”
Peter Koski, an attorney for Smith, told Fox News Digital, “We are disappointed that offer was rejected, and that the American people will be denied the opportunity to hear directly from Jack on these topics.”
Koski added, “Jack looks forward to meeting with the committee later this month to discuss his work and clarify the various misconceptions about his investigation.”
Chairman Jordan’s subpoena includes a sweeping call for for all documents and communications related to Smith’s time as special counsel.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) told Smith’s attorneys that it would make “unique” accommodations for Congress by allowing Smith to “provide unrestricted testimony to the Committee, irrespective of potential privilege.”

Will the House Republicans have the backbone to ask hard questions or are they afraid FBI deep state has blackmail information on them?
IMO, he takes the 5th and that’s that. I wouldn’t think (although not an attorney), that he would even do the Hillary “I don’t recall,” as it’s likely there’s a paper trail that would trip him up.
At least Congresscritters are attempting to do something. The theater aspect will have some benefit. Dems are masters at it.
I think this will take place behind closed doors. Smith wants to testify in public to make a public spectacle...
Please donate to Freeper in Jim’s memory. What would we do without our ad free site??
Smith needs to be thrown in prison for his crimes.
Hold the interrogation in a SCIF. Then leak selected answers to the press and prohibit Smith from making any public comments. Declare all records confidential.
It worked for Adam Schiff.
EC
I would love to see Jim Jordan personally ask Smith why he subpoenaed 2 1/2 years of his phone records...
He likely won’t show.
Quite possible.
But...if he pleads the 5th, that’s his answer. I don’t think he can do that, grandstand, then go back, etc.
My thought is that it would be public to get his refusal to answer in the public venue. Politics and PR as opposed to getting answers, imo.
