Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have opened nearly 290,000 criminal cases related to unauthorized absence from military duty and desertion since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the Prosecutor General’s Office told the Ukrainska Pravda news outlet on Oct. 14.
From January 2022 to September 2025, investigators registered 235,646 cases of unauthorized absence from service and 53,954 cases of desertion.
This is a sharp increase compared to the same period between January 2022 and September 2024, when approximately 90,000 cases were recorded — around 60,000 for unauthorized absence and 30,000 for desertion.

Post war analysis will explode senile Joe's war supporters, especially with Ukie KIA, WIA, MIA, Captured, Surrendered, sickness and desertion figures.
Missing from the report are those prominent government elite who have left the country permanently. Mindich and the golden toilet crowd....
My understanding is that Ukrainian conscripts are in “for the duration” once they are dragooned into the Ukrainian military. That means they are in until they are KIA, permanently maimed/disabled or they desert. The growing desertions are not a surprise to anyone following (using diverse sources of new and information) this war closely.
Put Zelinsky and Putin in a room and let THEM fight to the death. STOP sending your citizenry.
“… Missing from the report are those prominent government elite who have left the country permanently. …”

Also missing are counts of those who have deserted but “remain on the rolls” so their commanders can continue to collect their salaries and allocated supplies.
How many were killed in action and there’s no record of it ?
This is a proxy war. Zelensky is the Ukraine face of it and does the bidding of those steering him.
A room with Zelensky and Putin would do nothing.
As I said about the south Vietnamese I’ll say about the Ukrainians....if their boys won’t fight for their own country then our boys certainly don’t fight for their country.
Gee, I don't know. Given the reflections from my era in the US Army, we still have some few MIAs from Vietnam. Your question will likely never be answered for anyone on any side.
Awhile back the Pentagon published what the US was giving to Ukraine. What stuck out? 250,000 artificial limbs. ( consistent with Artillery casualties). Vlad’s artillery ratio of 7:1 has increased to 20:1…..the amount of seperated Ukie soldiers without limbs is terrifying to the Ukie society…as it should be.
Those who refuse to defend their country from an invader do not deserve to have one.
If the United States is ever invaded, I expect most Democrats will flee to Canada or Mexico.
In your opinion, do you think the US did leave some living MIAs behind as prisoners because getting them back was too difficult and would have required continuing the war there?
Ukrainian military leaders order soldiers to hold positions until they are encircled and then tell them to keep holding. The soldiers have to decide whether to surrender against orders or die. Military experts have been trying to figure why they do this for several years now.
If you are grabbed off the street and shoved into a van, escaping at the first opportunity is sane, morally justified and is not “desertion”.
Democrats already rolled out the red carpet to invaders. Then they settled them in every city and paid them. NOW they are defending them being removed.
We were told, 'officially no' and unofficially yes. Ditto with fragging and other incidents. So my opinion is just plain "yes." As to the last part of your "because," the war could not have been continued. "Frequent Wind" was, in the same manner, 'successful' if you were among those who got out, and a failure if you were among the many left behind. We assisted a couple of Vietnamese to get out in that time who are now loyal US citizens and very conservative in their outlook.
Most of them are in Poland
