Trump Offer? Recognize Crimea to End War?

The United States is reportedly prepared to recognize Russia's control over Crimea and other Ukrainian territories currently occupied by Russian forces as part of a proposed peace deal to end the nearly four-year war.

The move would mark a major shift in longstanding U.S. policy and break with Washington's refusal since 2014 to legitimize Russia's territorial claims, The Telegraph reported Friday.

The report says President Donald Trump has dispatched peace envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner to Moscow to present the offer directly to Vladimir Putin. Moscow confirmed Friday it had received a revised U.S. strategy after emergency talks with Ukrainian and American officials in Geneva last weekend.

While a 28-point plan drafted earlier by Witkoff included "de facto" U.S. recognition of Crimea and the Donbas regions, sources told The Telegraph that American offers of recognition remain part of the latest 19-point proposal.

Putin has publicly signaled that U.S. legal recognition of Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk as Russian territory is a key condition for any agreement.

Kyiv, however, continues to reject territorial concessions outright, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's chief of staff Andriy Yermak reiterating that "not a single sane person" would sign away Ukrainian land and that the constitution prohibits ceding territory without a national referendum.

European allies have raised alarm over the reported American offer, stressing after a meeting this week that "borders must not be changed by force."

A European counter-proposal makes no mention of recognizing Russian control and insists territorial issues be resolved only after a full ceasefire.

The latest negotiations leave several core disputes unresolved, including the status of Russian-held regions in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.

Give in (for now) get the war STOPPED.

We can get at Russia in other ways, from now to eternity. We can help Ukraine rebuild to a much greater nation than the dying (with our help) Russia.

Get the war STOPPED, then PUNISH Russia FOREVER!

I agree that Mark Halperin is an a$$h**e, however that would not sink Wires, and I don’t see his byline on the article.

The question is whether NATO is stupid enough to invade or openly attack Russia now.

And when the coup took over Kiev, it didn’t need those surly Right Sector and Svoboda militants hanging around watching them.
They sent them east to attack the areas that opted out of the coup. Then the nazi militias spent 8 years pounding those areas at killing about 10k people according to the OSCE.

In Feb of 22 the nato pumped-up Ukes were massing for a final attack in the Donbas.

If we’re willing to participate in and then recognize the FORCEFUL DISMEMBERMENT of Yugoslavia and then Serbia, then it only makes sense that we do the same for Ukraine.

Either borders mean something, or they don’t, and Yugoslavia/Serbia proved that borders don’t mean anything, at least to Western countries.

Yes, I seem to remember NATO jets Cluster Bombing Christian Serbian Children to protect Muslim Terrorist Ethnic cleansing squads and Muslim Snipers, ... in addition to NATO assisting in the Ethnic Cleansing of Kosovo Province by Albanian Muslims.

Followed by the UN Blue Helmet Human Trafficking scandal.

Ukraine should get the same treatment, we're all about "Equality", (except More Equal Democrats, who are more equal than others).

End the war and then Putin will invade another country

Why would Putin want to invade another country? Europe better be worrying about the Islamists, not Russian invaders.

Blaming the post Soviet Russian Federation for the crimes of Stalin would be exactly the same as blaming today’s Germany or Japan for their crimes.

Sheer stupidity.

If Ukraine signs the peace treaty with Russia, I would offer the American recognition of Crimea.

Putin won't agree at this point because he wants far more than the international recognition of Crimea.

Well, if Putin won't agree, then you have no worries, your war will continue.

I'll just sit back and watch you and Putin play poker and try to bluff one another ... and see who wins.

“Nice try but that lie does not fly anymore.”

...only because it was about the DUMBEST THING ever done by the Neocons (forcing Ukraine to fight this war).

It is the Russians who are forcing the Ukrainians to fight this war. Ukraine has agreed many times to a ceasefire along the current lines. It is Russia that says nyet.

“Ukraine has agreed many times to a ceasefire along the current lines. It is Russia that says nyet.”

Because Russia agreed to just that 11 years ago and it was a HUGE MISTAKE, since nothing came of it. Now, if the Neocons REALLY WANT a cease fire, they’ll have to offer something substantial in return.

But, of course, the Neocons would rather Ukraine lose than Trump get a deal that satisfies both sides.

I already expained this to you, and yet again you come bcak with the same false statement. Boris Johnson was the one that rejected it, and he convinced Zelenskyy to reject it also.

Thus, it was Zelenskyy that rejeced it, not Putin.

I've heard rumors.

Not actual sources though.

While what you say is absolutely correct, you forgot to mention that it was around that time that they created a new regement, referred to as the Azov battalion which was formed in May 2014 as a volunteer militia to combat Russian-backed forces in Ukraine's Donbas region, initially operating as a self-funded unit under the command of Andriy Biletsky.

It originated from far-right groups such as Patriot of Ukraine and the Social-National Assembly, which held ultranationalist and neo-Nazi ideologies, and some of its early members were associated with extremist views and symbols reminiscent of Nazism.

You csn almost guarantee that there was a threat by them for that to happen, which is why I gave the rumors creedence. It just rings as a real possibility. But again, I have no ptoof that was the case. I's one of those things tht can be neither proven or denied.

In fact, that was what Putin was referring to when he said that the Special Operation objectives was to rid Ukraine of its Nazi problem.

In Feb of 22 the nato pumped-up Ukes were massing for a final attack in the Donbas.

In thier minds they probably did think that, but alas it was not so.

Now you, MinorityRepublican, are misattributing two statements that are unrelated to the Boris Johnson statement.

Those comments had nothing to do with the Boris Johnson statements, they had to do with the Naxie threateuning the Ukraine government if zelenskyy accepted Putin opffer to withdraw from Ukraine and return all land that Russia held at that time, except for the Crimea, as Russia help the Crimea as a strategic part of Russia's national security.

Here's the source regarding Boris Johnson though:
