So sound would imply an atmosphere for the sound to be heard and travel?

Yes, Mars has a very thin atmosphere, mostly CO2...........but no Global Warming............

Mars has a thin CO2 atmosphere, enough to carry a small helicopter. Thunder and lightning shouldn't be a problem.
