I believe it is a crime for coming over illegally, but visa overstays may be civil issues.

The visa overstay is civil. Coming here illegally, not showing up for proceedings, working for cash or using someone else’s identity to work, going on public assistance while not a citizen, providing invalid ID and attesting that you are eligible to work in the United States - all illegal. This Einstein’s out is that she never actually WITNESSED the act of coming into this country illegally, so she will only focus on the civil aspect.
A terminal mistake.
Simple residing + receiving federal benefits, it also becomes a felony.
The first illegal entry is a misdemeanor; any subsequent violations are felonies.
A misdemeanor is a crime.

We can all assume there was a pretty good reason she was dumped as the Oakland, CA, chief of police.
There are significant aspects of immigration law that are both civil and administrative; for example, hearings are not conducted under the rules of criminal procedure, and warrants and subpoenas are not issued by US District judges but rather by District Directors. That said, 8 USCf 1325 makes illegal entry a crime. Additionally, there are several sections of 18 USC that are crimes and come under the jurisdiction of immigration law enforcement. Kirkpatrick is what you get when a job applicant is valued more for what’s under the skirt than what’s under the hat.
