Sen. Ron Johnson rejected President Trump’s proposal to shell out $2,000 “tariff dividend” checks to Americans before the 2026 midterm elections, arguing that money should be used to reduce the federal deficit.
Johnson (R-Wis.) praised the idea during an interview with Fox Business Network’s “Mornings With Maria” Monday, but insisted getting the country’s fiscal house back in order was more important.
The payments would require approval from the Republican-controlled Congress, with Johnson and other GOPers indicating the proposal is dead on arrival.

A lot of Freepers didn't like the idea of the $2k payout, so here ya go.

I dunno. I’d rather get my fiscal house in order with 2 grand, than throwing more money down the Government endless pit rat hole.
If not, as long as it is used to reduce the deficit fine. If the money is going to be part of another giveaway like the obamacare credit, they can GFT.
They always talk about deficit reduction as the most important thing, but never do any of it. Maybe the talk is just an excuse to cover for the fact they do nothing.
I’m with ya.
This
I trust Americans with the 2k more than the government, pay it out.
But the GOP members shouldn't be so public about it. They should follow Trump's lead and let the Dims be the ones to come against it. Trump's trolling techniques are a primary way of getting points across to the public. If the GOP would let the Dims be the ones to criticize it, there would be a lot of back and forth between the Dims and Trump, resulting in the public being more educated that the tariffs are bringing in real revenue worth arguing about what to do with.
“getting the country’s fiscal house back in order was more important.”
As long as it doesn’t affect THEIR pay.....as was evidenced by continuing to get paid during the government shutdown when the military, ATCs et al were not.......that’s some real despicable sht right there.
insisted getting the country’s fiscal house back in order was more important.
Haha! Now that is funny!
Luckily, I figured it was more crap 😕 out of DC. Would’ve been nice towards paying my property taxes here in Texas.
This is after Congress collected their paychecks during the shutdown
After MTG waltzed away with $22 million but not before Jan 3 when she gets full retirement for working for a whole 5 years
So. Some animals are…

I’m in that lot. I don’t want us or Trump slip-sliding into the “buy-a-vote” crowd.
It’s a dumb idea. Not only can we not afford it, it doesn’t necessarily go to the people paying the tariff. Just say NO!
HOW ABOUT half/half???
FOR THOSE OF US MAKING UNDER $20K A YEAR ON SS, IT SURE WOULD HELP.
REMIND US ALL AGAIN:
WHO SETS THE PAY LEVELS IN CONGRESS????
RIIIIIGHT-—THEY DO-—FOR THEMSELVES.....
REMIND US ALL AGAIN ABOUT PELOSI”S STOCKS & HILLARY”S WEALTH
GWB did something similar.
It didn’t save his Presidency.
I like the idea of winning the midterms. Trump is brilliant to buy votes with free tariff money. Democrats have been doing it forever with our tax dollars. Johnson is being short sighted and should concentrate on reducing government and reining in spending.
Pogue Colonel: Then how about getting with the program? Why don’t you jump on the team and come on in for the big win?
