A senior House Republican predicts that more "explosive early resignations are coming" after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's (R-Ga.) surprise announcement that she would leave Congress in January.
Several GOP House members privately told Punchbowl News that they were also considering retiring before their terms end, after Greene's Nov. 21 announcement.
It’s unknown which Republicans are currently pondering resignation, but a feeling that legislators' needs are being neglected by party leadership and an inability to pass legislation has led some to consider quitting, as they expect the GOP to lose its already slim majority in Congress.
The anonymous GOP lawmaker said that morale amongst the Republican caucus in the House has "never been lower" and called the present situation a "tinder box."
He also predicted that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) could lose his leadership position before the end of the term due to growing internal tensions in the ranks and said that many blame him and the White House personally.
“This entire White House team has treated ALL members like garbage. ALL. And Mike Johnson has let it happen because he wanted it to happen," the House Republican told Punchbowl News. "That is the sentiment of nearly all — appropriators, authorizers, hawks, doves, rank and file. The arrogance of this White House team is off putting to members who are run roughshod and threatened."
"They don’t even allow little wins like announcing small grants or even responding from agencies. Not even the high profile, the regular rank and file random members are more upset than ever. Members know they are going into the minority after the midterms," continued the legislator.
“More explosive early resignations are coming. It’s a tinder box. Morale has never been lower. Mike Johnson will be stripped of his gavel ...

He’s been on FR for a while. I wonder if there were signs...
"starting them with lasers"
Cool story, bro.
Tell all the gang over at DU that we say “hi.”
After watching info on Real Americas Voice yesterday, I am starting to wonder if all of the trolls here are actually from different countries, here to disrupt and divide.
Can’t recall which program it was, but it was talking about fake accounts with ‘conservative names’ on all of the social media, but from countries all around the world (pretending to be conservative Americans).
“Historically the odds are heavily stacked against the party in power in the next congressional election.”
This is certainly true, very much so in recent years. The last time the “party in power” did well in a midterm election was 2002. That was more a reflection of the fact that the GOP — for the first time ever, in many states — had control of the redistricting process as the result of picking up so many state legislative seats from the mid-1990s on. They were presumably finally able to undo many Democrat gerrymanders effective in 2002.
2006 and 2018 were landslides against Republicans. 2010 and 2014 were landslides against Democrats (Obama). 2022 was no landslide, with only a net change of 9 seats, but it was significant because Republicans took control. Redistricting had almost no NET effect on the 2022 House elections because Republicans wimped out in several states and liberal judges swatted down GOP plans in other states.
And on it goes.
For the usual reason — and for other reasons — 2026 is unlikely to be pretty for the GOP. That goes for the Senate too. If there is a “blue” wave it will definitely extend to the state legislative level as well as Congress, as we saw quite clearly 3 weeks ago.
We really have many problems:
—the Ukraine war
—Arab (Saudi,Qatar influence)
—Israel (Jewish influence)
—Western Europe hostile to our values
—China infiltration/influence
—H1B cheap labor, mostly from India
It just goes on and on....
"I wonder if there were signs..."
Dems will pick up 15-20 seats in the House. Trump Impeachment bill on day one of new Congress.
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!
IATZ.
If true, they’re TRAITORS.
—the Ukraine war - about to end. Thankfully the US is not dumping $$ into the bottomless pit any more, POTUS has demanded an audit of where it all went, and Zelensky the coke fiend is now hated by Ukrainians and running out of men (14 year olds to grandpas) to thrown into the meat grinder.
—Arab (Saudi,Qatar influence) Saudi Arabia is not a problem any more. Remeber the sword dance the Saudis honored him with in his firest term. Trump assisted Mohammed bin Salmlan get rid of the very corrup and terrorism fund Saudi royals. MbS and Trump are good friends, and Saudi has reformed tremendously, the bad ones, in particular Al Waleed, are rendered harmless. Qatar is another problem.
—Israel (Jewish influence)
Wut? “Jewish influence?” Because the US sells them arms so they can protect themselves?
—Western Europe hostile to our values
The Euroglobohomopedomuzzieloverwarpigs can go fornicate themselves. European citizens are rebelling against their tyrannical leaders, things are changing in Europe.
—China infiltration/influence
Yes, a big problem. Trump will fix it before he leaves office.
—H1B cheap labor, mostly from India
Also going to be fixed, Americans need JOBS and people will not stand for jobs being taken by foriengers. Patience...
They were all over X like flies on crap. All haters of Israel, and “Trump is failing” stuff. I have an X account (since 2015) and I could hardly stand being on there.
I am not going to debate each point.
The bottom line is that the midterms are coming up fast—and some of these are tough issues with no quick fixes.
Could be, but MTG’s “jews with lasers” was before the Maui fires.
Elections MUST be honest, and they are NOT.
Agreed—Democrat election cheating belongs on any list of issues—and definitely affects close races in Democrat controlled states.
He shure was petty
an shure did shoot his mouf off!
The main problem being the azzhats that are supposed to represent WE THE PEOPLE are representing their own self interests. SPIT...
I had a good friend who got elected to Congress as a principled Republican in a “swing distict” during the Gingrich era.
The guy served with outstanding integrity—refused to be cowed by any special interest.
The Democrats then outspent him by ten to one in his re-election bid and he lost by five points.
Incumbents in Congress understand that reality—that makes them prisoners of war held captive by special interests.
