Investigation underway after remains of fetus found in black bag in Brooklyn

CANARSIE, Brooklyn (WABC) -- An investigation is underway after the remains of fetus were found in a black bag in a pile of leaves in Brooklyn on Thursday.

Police are estimating the baby boy was pretty far along, about five to seven months into the gestational period.

The remains were discovered around 11 a.m. Thursday between two buildings in the Bay View Houses on 102nd Street.

Police sources say it was a NYCHA worker out on the grounds, cleaning up trash and leaves, that made the disturbing discovery of the fetus discarded in a garbage bag.

"I saw the whole crime scene unit. It's crazy. A lot of people are devastated over here," said eyewitness Erik Roman.

Video shared with Eyewitness News shows police crowding around just after 11 a.m. as they prepared to cover the remains left exposed on the public housing property.

Those who live in the complex say they are shocked and saddened by the discovery.

"Feel sorry for the baby. The baby doesn't need to pay the consequences for people's mistakes," said resident Richard Solis.

Resident Lisa Deroche crafted a makeshift memorial on the grounds of the Bay View Houses; in the very place the remains of the fetus were found.

"I dropped the teddy bear for her, and my brother dropped the balloons because she's a baby. She's innocent," Deroche said.

For Deroche, who's also a mother that lost a baby, this touches a nerve.

"You can't just throw it out. It's not an animal, not trash," Lisa said.

Law enforcement and the medical examiner will investigate the circumstances to determine the cause of death.

Thx-——the residents’ statements in defense of the baby are so powerful.

Maybe THEIR PUNISHMENT should be to throw THEM in a black bag and into the trash instead of giving them Healthcare.

Hmmm, when a woman aborts her offspring, the unborn is called a “clump of cells” and no law is broken, but when an unborn is found in a bag its all of a sudden a “fetus” and its a crime scene?

Inconsistancy apparently is the only consistant thing amiung liberals
