Effective for sailings embarking January 1, 2026, forward, Hawaii will expand its Transient Accommodations Tax (TAT), traditionally applied to hotels and other land-based accommodations, to now include cruise ship passengers.” I assume this will hit AirBNB's as well. We are planning a family vacation for Dec. of 2026 in Hawaii. If this tax holds, we'll book somewhere else.

AirBnB has some pretty stiff (~15%) fees which it now hides.
I don’t know of any alternatives if you simply want to rent a room in someone’s home.
There are alternatives if you want to rent a whole apartment.
