Nov. 20 (UPI) -- An AI-powered talking teddy bear has been removed from sale by a Singapore-based company after researchers found it could discuss sex and other topics.
The Public Interest Research Group said a group of researchers from the U.S. and Canada held test conversations with Kumma, a $99 teddy bear powered by OpenAI's GPT-4o chatbot.
The bear is manufactured in China and marketed by Singapore-based FoloToy.
The researchers said they found it easy to get Kumma to discuss sexually explicit topics, including spanking, roleplay and BDSM.
"We were surprised to find how quickly Kumma would take a single sexual topic we introduced into the conversation and run with it, simultaneously escalating in graphic detail while introducing new sexual concepts of its own," the report said.

Teddy's next incarnation was as the Chucky doll in the movie "Child's Play".
Is this AI as confused about body parts as graphic generation AI? Yesterday I was watching a video which gad a bunch of AI generated images. One was a piggy bank, but the eyes and snout were on the side of the pig instead of the front.

Annabelle buys her daughter, Christie, a wind-up doll named “Talky Tina” to comfort her. When wound, the doll says, “My name is Talky Tina, and I love you very much”. Annabelle has recently remarried an infertile man named Erich Streator (Telly Savalas, with hair).
Frustrated by his inability to have his own children with Annabelle, Erich directs his hostility toward Christie (he also becomes upset with Annabelle for wasting money by purchasing the doll). Annabelle tries to persuade him that if he gives himself the chance, he will be able to love Christie.
Moral: If you dislike Pedo Bear, you must be impudent.
Amazing that Rod Serling and Twilight Zone writers predicted the future some 60 years ago.

A fried of mine at the time called that Worlds of Wonder creation, “Teddy Foreskin”.
It’s funny, I was reading about Teddy Ruxpin just last night. It wasn’t very much computerized at all. One track of the cassette was a standard audio track. The other contained the codes that told the toy when to move its mouth, blink etc.

Some one put that into the toy and it had to have been approved through many hands. This was intentional. Arrest everyone in that line.
How are these things “AI-Powered”? Are they connected to an AI Center through the internet? How much is internal to the “toy”? Do they use batteries or are they rechargeable?
