Musk also said that Optimus would change life for incarcerated people at the meeting. Instead of physically jailing prisoners, Optimus could "follow you around and stop you from doing crime," he said.

Oliver Twist asking for more oatmeal
"The room in which the boys were fed, was a large stone hall, with a copper at one end: out of which the master, dressed in an apron for the purpose, and assisted by one or two women, ladled the gruel at meal-times. Of this festive composition each boy had one porringer, and no more…"

"Please, sir, I want some more."

The food being served was gruel, a thin watery mixture of oats boiled in water or milk, typical of workhouse rations.

Oatmeal porridge of the kind we moderns eat would have been regarded as paradisical.

Regards,

No thanks. I don’t want a robotic overseer.

My first crime would be to destroy the robot.

And I would be a recidivist.

Let’s confine these snoopy robots to Mars where Elon will presumably be some sort of demi-god, and keep them away from us earthlings.

Musk is brilliant—at some things. But he is dumb as a post at others.

Poverty is a spiritual condition, not a lack of money.

"Musk also said that Optimus would change life for incarcerated people at the meeting."

That's so nice of Musk and Optimus to get involved in the rehabilitation of incarcerated people, and then to arrange for them to be in attendance also shows that they haven't lost their humanity. /s

He meant, “eliminate the impoverished”.

Minor criminals can be dealt with so major criminals can be locked up longer.

The word "cangue" is French, from the Portuguese "canga" ... Frequently translated as pillory, it was similar to that European punishment except that the movement of the prisoner's hands was not as rigorously restricted and that the board of the cangue was not fixed to a base and had to be carried around by the prisoner.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cangue

One might use steel plates welded together. The welds might be photographed to verify it wasn't removed and only replaced shortly before scheduled removal.

"A type of shackle, the ball and chain is designed so that the weight of the iron ball at the end of the short chain restricts and limits the pace at which its wearer is able to move, making any attempt at escape much more difficult. The weight of the ball would typically be determined by the court, typically ranging from five to twenty-five pounds (2.27-11.34 kg)."

"This ball and chain leg-iron weighs 36 pounds (16.3 kilograms) and was designed to make movement extremely difficult and escape virtually impossible."

"Leg-irons were made by convict blacksmiths at Sydney’s lumberyard after those sent from England proved to be inferior and easily slipped off. Irons were affixed to and struck off convicts’ ankles by the blacksmiths."

Sentencing laws could be such that ex-cons might have to carry around post-release movement monitoring means as future state law may designate from time to time, such as a functioning mobile phone.

Housing could be built fairly cheaply.

There’s no good reason for government to hand ordinary people money for ordinary expenses.

How many of you would be willing to fork out $15K/year of your own money for your kid to be in high school?

Are we getting $60,000/year of value from high school education?

Move most of it online.

Ditto for college.

no doubt. I trust Elon when he says the robots will be following us around, capturing video and audio, hearing a whisper in the next room ( Like Alexa,) all the while sending all that data to the giant processing centers for storage/surveilance. I’m going to wear shades because the future is so bright

Sounds like something that might be in a Philip K. Dick story.
Does Elon Musk like science fiction but not in a good way? So ...

How about something like The Matrix, but voluntary?
Or like the holodeck in 2nd generation Star Trek, but permanent?

Everyone lives in whatever they think is a perfect world.
