Fly-tippers bury field in 'shocking' mountain of waste (Illegal Dumping)

Fly-tippers have dumped a "grotesque" mountain of waste in a field in Oxfordshire.

The "environmental catastrophe unfolding in plain sight" is up to 150m (490ft) long and 6m (20ft) high and has appeared on a site between the River Cherwell and the A34 near Kidlington.

Calum Miller, Liberal Democrat MP for Bicester and Woodstock, has raised the issue in Parliament, saying it was "threatening an environmental disaster".

He also said Cherwell District Council had estimated the cost of removing the waste would be greater than its entire annual budget.

"This is not a licensed waste site and we can just see the quantity of waste that has been dumped here, that's illegal, so it's criminal," Mr Miller said, calling it "pollution on a grotesque scale".

"That's not something that local residents and taxpayers can afford."

He says "criminal gangs are dumping waste on this scale" across the country and it will take government intervention before pollutants "leech out" into local rivers.

The Environment Agency said it would try to "ensure those responsible" for the waste cleared it up.

I put that envelope under that garbage.

Admittedly I don't know the details of British refuse hauling, many places in the US have private haulers that are not above dumping at unlicensed dumps to save dumping charges at approved landfills.

If contracted with such a hauler you discarded mail could end up there.

And since many people do not get anything in the mail but the junk variety and at least the US mail is rather careless in the delivery of mail, your mail could end up at another address and be discarded by someone else.

If the authorities found 30 envelopes with your address on it they might have a case.

Seems like they forgot to bring their lawn chairs to sit down for a couple hours and watch the trucks roll in and out.

what a weak statement ... do more than just TRY and do more than just make the cretins cleanup ... put all illegal dumpers in prison, with the time proportional to the amount of illegally dump stuff ...

and, btw, guaranteed this is being done by some of the UK’s new “guests”, since this magnitude of illegal dumping didn’t exist decades ago ...
