Recommend wrist heart rate monitor for treadmill.

Posted on 11/15/2025 9:02:15 PM PST by LouAvul

I have a fitbit alta I've used very little. The digital readout is very small and I don't wear my reading glasses when I'm exercising.

I have 20/25 vision and want something accurate that has a large screen.

Suggestions?

Have you considered a chest strap connected to your phone?

I use a Wahoo! Trakr heart rate monitor when I'm out hiking. Various apps record your heart rate and put your total heart rate time into "Zones." I find it very helpful for determining how much time I spend in each HR zone. The display on the phone is large, too. You can look at the phone for real-time HR reading AND look at the data when you are done exercising. Here's some sample data recorded in MapMyRun.

Why not go on Amazon and read the reviews?

Most treadmills have all that built in through handgrips and plug in straps.

Keep the Fitbit phone app open while using the treadmill. That displays a rather large live heart rate from the device.

Your phone app gives you larger display (my wife uses a fit bit but I don’t bother) and you don’t have to keep an eye on it all the time...we watch TV while we use exercise machines - and I periodically grab the heart-rate handles to see where I’m at.

Have you considered an Apple Watch Ultra or a Whoop?

Be warned the Whoop is a subscription model, with the most expensive adding blood pressure monitoring.
