Mamdani, Debs, and the Rise of Democratic Socialism

“The dawn of a better day” for New York City will not be what they imagined.

Zohran Mamdani, mayor-elect of New York City, quoted Eugene Debs in his acceptance speech last week. “The sun may have set over our city this evening, but as Eugene Debs once said: ‘I can see the dawn of a better day for humanity.’”

The Debs quote is, to most people, obscure. It is deliberately so. Most Democrat voters have no idea who Eugene V. Debs was, what he did, or the ideology he espoused—but that ignorance is paving the way for hardcore socialism.

Debs was the Socialist Party of America’s candidate for President of the United States during the early years of the 20th Century. He ran five times: 1900, 1904, 1908, 1912, and 1920. A vocal opponent of the First World War, Debs had publicly called for resistance to the draft. In 1918, Woodrow Wilson’s administration arrested, tried, convicted and imprisoned him for sedition. Debs had to run his 1920 campaign from his cell in a federal prison. He didn’t win, but he was hailed as a socialist hero by fellow socialists the world over.

The quote Mamdani used was lifted from Debs’s statement to the court upon his conviction, excerpted in part below:

I never so clearly comprehended as now the great struggle between the powers of greed and exploitation on the one hand and upon the other the rising hosts of industrial freedom and social justice. I can see the dawn of the better day for humanity. The people are awakening. In due time they will and must come to their own.

It is interesting to note that Debs used the term social justice—remember, this is 1918. He also used the words “greed” and “exploitation”; words currently (and continuously) used as

Is there a way to prevent those who voted for Mamdani from leaving NYC?

Great discussion on Debs—he was an important historical figure who has had a major influence on modern leftists (even though most do not know it).

Here is an old tract he wrote on the subject of immigration—his argument that leftists from all over the world should be welcome in the country to help crush the evil capitalists:

Debs was not really original.
All those terms have been used by Marxists all over the world, since Marx.
Well tested demagoguery, and proven to work everywhere in the world.
It bothers me that people are still so stupid to fall for that.

While socialism is promising paradise on Earth, it is the main cause of the most human misery since Marx conceived it!

President Warren G. Harding, a conservative Republican, sprung him with a presidential pardon.

They won’t. Democrat voters are incapable of completing the mental process of linking cause (their socialist vote) to effect (higher taxes and lower quality of life). It’s primarily their egos preventing them from admitting that they screwed up. Instead they move to a red state and do their best to turn it into a shithole by voting Democrat - again.

Oh the #RustyIrony... “Democratic Socialism” is the oxyiest of oxymorons/ Designed to appeal to greed and envy of ordinary morons who demand to steal the labor of their fellow citizens! Socialism by foundation steals the labor and liberty of the productive and promises it to the non-productive. Such stolen labor used to be called slavery but now is “fair share”, “economic justice” and “income equality.” Promises of permanent childhood to those convinced they “deserve” some of your property and production. Promises is all there is... never realized as Socialism ALWAYS will descend into neo-feudalism and tyranny, masters and serfs... guess which you’ll be if seduced by the Socialist Serpent’s “Red Pottage.”

Democratic Socialism is nothing more than a small committee making all the big decisions. Of course, as Donald Fagen put it, with AI, it will be a “just machine to make big decisions/programmed by fellas with compassion and vision”

I would like to thank a certain private equity company for acquiring a Dallas based company about 16 years ago, enabling this skinny dumbass western New Yorker to stumble into an all expense paid executive relocation program.

There’s things I miss from there, but life is 1,000 times better here for my family and I.

Yes mammadammadingdong, yes Hochul, and all the other Leftists - give it to them good and hard. The day will come when people wake up and see what a disaster Dems have made of NY and NYC. I hope they make you pay equally for it.

While socialism is promising paradise on Earth, it is the main cause of the most human misery since Marx conceived it!

Rubbish!

People in Iceland, Denmark and Norway are among the happiest people on Earth, which people in Sweden are miserable.

Are you sure it's economics that is the problem?

'The dawn of a better day' for New York City will not be what they imagined.

No kidding.

A better day for those who fled to Florida and the elite Communist Commissars - just like in the old Soviet Union - while the rest of the population suffers.

Wonder if the LGBT crowd will come to regret their vote...

the Rise of Democratic Socialism

Stop using euphemisms. It's hard core communism that will be run by the Muslim brotherhood funded by global crony capitalism. It's the perfect storm of three dystopian brands of nihilism.

He was an out and out Marxist... and quite the slick talking demagogue. He’s fully into the oppressor-oppressed worldview.

“Have just read the majority report of the Committee on Immigration. It is utterly unsocialistic, reactionary and in truth outrageous, and I hope you will oppose with all your power. The plea that certain races are to be excluded because of tactical expediency would be entirely consistent in a bourgeois convention of self-seekers, but should have no place in a proletariat gathering under the auspices of an international movement that is calling on the oppressed and exploited workers of all the world to unite for their emancipation. . “

Ever since karl marx started the idea of state supported communism, it has been a total failure every place it has been tried, but that doesn't deter dummies from jumping on the "free stuff bandwagon".

The fact that the pilgrims tried communism after arriving in America and it failed should be a shining light on that system.

Any system that is contrary to human nature is destined to fail.

END OF STORY.
