Funny you should mention. For one of my compositions in college I stole bits from the album “Songs of the Humpback Whale”, recreating them as best I could with a Moog and a Korg synth, arranging the motives onto a 4 track Teac as a fugue. Wonder if I still have that reel.

Translate as 42.42.42.42.42.
By the way, I understand that when asking an AI model for a random number 42 comes up more than it should.

Sperm whales communicating in clicks and codas has been known for years and AI now says this is a language? I could have told AI that. Same thing for dolphins etc.

Yes. And many other animal species signal through sound. The question is when signalling becomes language.

Using AI to study whale communication, Project CETI researchers discovered that sperm whales 'talk' to each other with strange, Morse code-like clicking patterns.
We know it was actually Sir Oliver S. Lindenbrook who cracked the code.

If they wanted to study the language of other creatures maybe they should have started with crows.

Bring it.
Their space is amazing ,for me, anyway. They sound in vast space over long, long distances.
I find two sea creatures of continuous interest, two seemingly alien life forms here on earth:
1) Hump Back whales
2) Octopii

If we can’t converse with these intelligent animals, will we be able to converse with alien life if we ever make contact with?

Whale evolution seems perfectly logical. Octopii on the other hand, well if someone were to me they arrived to Earth a billion years ago via an interstellar rock carrying bits of their DNA, I wouldn’t blink at all.
